when he went down, beomgyu was sitting on the couch, scrolling mindlessly on instagram.
"oh hey hyung!" beomgyu said once yeonjun sat down next to him, and instantly rested his head on yeonjun's shoulder.
"how was your dance evaluation?"
"it went well, they signed me."
you should have seen the euphoria on beomgyu's face when he heard the news. it was written on his face, and the way his cute little eyes beamed and his dimple poking his skin in the most adorable way ever made yeonjun's heart twinge a little.
"really??? you're the best!!"
beomgyu threw himself onto the elder, and yeonjun caught him, patting his head. for the last time.
"actually, i want to tell you something."
beomgyu pulled away from the embrace, and he tilted his head, waiting for yeonjun to continue.
yeonjun wanted to bury into a hole right there and then.
"i..i can't do this anymore."
beomgyu's face fell slightly, the small that was on his face slowly dissolved into a confused little pout and his eyebrows furrowed slightly, not exactly getting it.
"w..what do you mean by that?"
beomgyu was beyond confused, weren't they fine? what went wrong? or did yeonjun only need some time alone?
yeonjun, however, looked as if he was about to either punch himself, punch the couch, or punch beomgyu. his hands were balled into fists, and he was making weird gestures with his hands.
"to be put simply, i never really liked you gyu."
10 words.
13 syllables.
but that went straight into beomgyu's small heart, and he felt it twinge uncomfortably just as he heard those words.
but beomgyu didn't react just yet, the confusion stronger than ever. yes it hurt, but there has to be a logical explanation behind everything after all.
"continue speaking." beomgyu said. there was no fury or anger in his tone, and yeonjun really wanted to punch himself for upsetting beomgyu this deeply.
"when you confessed, i just didn't know how to reject you," yeonjun continued, guilt now starting to eat him again. "i..i thought that i would gradually grow feelings with you after a while and-"
"so you made me think that i had a chance." beomgyu cut in, his tone now a lot more icy and cold than before.
yeonjun didn't look into beomgyu's eyes, but when he looked up at them after hearing beomgyu's nasty tone, he realised how many emotions beomgyu was feeling then.
confusion, anger, doubt.
but most importantly, hurt.
choi beomgyu was never a crier, he's only emotional when he saw any one of his friends choke up, and he rarely started crying first.
but that day, when yeonjun saw beomgyu's eyes covered with tears, he himself wanted to cry.
"you did nothing wrong gyu, i'm sure that you'll find someone else-"
"but do i want anyone else?" beomgyu interrupted again, this time, his voice audibly cracked. he didn't even bother trying to hide the fact that he was broken, his tears starting to escape from his doe eyes.
yeonjun fell silent, not knowing what to say.
"you know, i sometimes wonder how i manage to get you as my boyfriend." beomgyu started talking, and yeonjun listened.
"i wake up, and i remember that i have you.
i don't know why i'm so head over heels for you, but you make me so insanely happy. i thought it was probably because we were friends since we were kids, but then i slowly realised that i liked you."
beomgyu stopped, eyes never leaving yeonjun's.
"the day when we somehow got together, i thought i was daydreaming. i loved you for years before that, so it felt like a fever dream. i should have known, all the warning signs, i should have questioned why you seemed so odd. but i chose not to, because i believed you."
yeonjun gulped, feeling his eyes sting. beomgyu's tears stopped flowing down his cheeks, but instead they calmed down to singular droplets that dripped from his eyes onto the couch.
"i'm sorry gyu."
yeonjun knew an apology wouldn't suffice, but he didn't know what to do anymore. beomgyu was being so patient, yeonjun actually half expected him to throw his out of the house, but they were actually having a peaceful talk, and that itself was a thing that yeonjun didn't expect at all.
beomgyu was hurt, he felt his heart just shatter into a million pieces, torn and cannot be fixed. his chest felt heavy with emotions, but he tried to ignore it.
"we can remain as good friends." yeonjun added on, praying that beomgyu would somehow agree to it.
beomgyu was nice 99% of the time, and the other 1% was when he got either too mad or too caught up in his little head before he lashed out.
and the 1% slowly kicked in.
beomgyu's eyes shifted, his gaze no longer hurt or confused. it was replaced by pure rage, and yeonjun gulped at that.
"get out."
yeonjun didn't move.
"I SAID GET OUT." beomgyu repeated, this time yelling at yeonjun, making the older jump and he left the house almost immediately. in other circumstances, beomgyu would laugh about how he kicked yeonjun out of his own house, but he wasn't in the mood.
reality only hit beomgyu after a few minutes of just sitting there, and his eyes slowly filled with even more tears again.
he heard someone shuffling closer to him, and he could only guess that it was yeonjun's mom.
but the person brought him into a comforting embrace, and beomgyu finally broke.
he didn't even know who he was sobbing out for, yeonjun, the person who was comforting him, or for himself. he just let the most heart wrenching series of sobs leave his throat as tears of anguish rolled down his face.
he should have known.
yeonjun should have known.
they both should have known.
it was a disaster since the beginning.
