"Okay, I wanna run through it one more time."

After dropping off Lucas, Max and Erica, the teenagers drove in silence until they reached Forest Hills Trailer Park. Once there, Steve hid the RV in the woods, not wanting to draw any more attention to them.

"Phase one," Nancy was at the front of the RV, leading them, while the others were spread across the back.

"We're going to the playground to meet Erica," Mavis explained. "And then she's going to signal Lucas and Max when we're ready."

"Phase two."

"Max baits Vecna," Steve answered, not exactly thrilled by the idea of Max putting herself in danger. "He'll go after her, which'll put him in his trance."

"Phase three?"

"Me and Eddie draw the bats away," Dustin added, pointing at Eddie, who placed his hand on the younger's head in a playful manner.

"Four."

"We head into Vecna's hopefully newly bat-free lair, and..." Robin finished, holding up one of the Molotov cocktails her and Steve had prepared. "Flambé."

"Nobody moves on to the next phase until we've all copied," Nancy spoke. "Nobody deviates from the plan, no matter what. Got it?"

"Got it," the other five answered in unison.

And before they knew it, they left the RV, quietly headed over to Eddie's trailer. Steve led the group, with Mavis, Robin and Nancy close behind, while Dustin and Eddie were at the back. There was a palpable tension in the air, and Mavis was sure all her friends could feel it. This was it.

Once inside, Steve turned on the light as he took his bag off his shoulder and looked at the sheet-made-rope in front of him, taking a deep breath.

"Be careful," Dustin said.

"Thanks, buddy," Steve hit him gently in the shoulder before he adjusted his vest and glanced at Mavis, who sent him a smile. Then, he held onto the rope and started to climb. "Here goes nothing."

He was on the other side quickly, landing on the floor in a swift — and attractive — way, before he looked up at the others and shrugged nonchalantly.

"What does he want us to do, applaud?" Robin muttered sarcastically, looking at Nancy as she did so.

Mavis just chuckled as she looked up, seeing Steve had placed a mattress under the rope to soften the fall.

"All right. Let's go," Steve ushered, and Mavis didn't waste a second before she handed her bag to Robin and grabbed the rope, starting to climb until she was on the other side.

She landed on the mattress with a thud and her eyes closed. When she opened them, she was met with Steve's hand extended towards her. Smiling, she took it.

"I got you, Mav," he said as he helped her up. Once she was standing, their faces drew closer, and for a brief moment, their gazes shifted toward each other's lips.

"Thank you," she whispered with a smile, her eyes meeting his again, before the two pulled away to make way for the others.

After a while, all six teenagers were in the Upside Down, along with their weapons. And once they were ready, Nancy was the first to step outside, Robin being second. Steve and Mavis followed close behind, with Eddie and Dustin being the last to leave the trailer. It was time for the group to separate, with the last two staying in the trailer park to distract the bats while the other three headed toward Creel house.

"Hey, guys, listen," Steve turned around to face Eddie and Dustin. "If things here start to go south, I mean, at all, you abort. Okay? Draw the attention of the bats. Keep 'em busy for a minute or two. We'll take care of Vecna. Don't try to be cute or be a hero or something. Okay? You guys are just..."

"Decoys," Dustin and Steve said in unison. "Don't worry. You can be the hero, Steve."

"That's not what he means, Dustin," Mavis spoke, approaching the two and hugging them, first Dustin and then Eddie. "He's just worried, okay? And he has every reason to be. So please be careful and don't try anything stupid."

"You got it, Wilson. After all, look at us. We are not heroes," he glanced at Dustin, chuckling slightly.

Mavis shook her head slightly before she turned around, Steve doing the same. However, he was stopped by Eddie.

"Hey, Steve? Make him pay."

The two boys nodded at each other, sharing a little moment, before Steve, Mavis, Robin and Nancy made their way to the Vecna's lair.

It wasn't a long walk from Forest Hills Trailer Park to the Creel house, but as they walked through the woods, it became clear to them that it would be harder than expected. After all, everything looked the same.

Using her flashlight, Mavis looked around. She had been in the woods a few nights before, when Eddie and her were hiding, and even if she had been in the northern woods instead of where they were right now, the difference between Hawkins and its Upside Down version was obvious. The air felt heavy, with spores drifting around and a fog enclosing the town, which made the once vibrant colors seem desaturated, therefore casting a gloomy atmosphere. Furthermore, the vines and tendrils that were creeping along every tree made it seem as if nature itself had been corrupted.

The Upside Down was a dark place, an alternate dimension where danger lurked around every corner and where the line between reality and nightmare was nonexistent.

"Uh... I don't mean to freak anyone out, but I swear we've seen this tree before," Robin broke the silence as she spoke nervously, pointing her flashlight at one of the trees.
