There Once was a Boy

There once was a boy

With big brown eyes

And a dimple formed

Whenever he smiled

Anne fostered him

Said he'd been abused

But he never cried

And he never seemed weak

And every day he would say

"Let's watch the sun set down."

There once was a boy

With warm, pink cheeks

And he spoke of dreams

And taught of love

And fought the bad

More than I had

But he was so young

How would he know

To touch my heart in a way

That made me cry myself to sleep?

There once was a boy

Who made fairies real

And a dormant bud

To bloom with life

And we made a deal

To chase life's tail

If it meant in the end

That we'd catch our dreams

And open the door

To who we really are

There once was a boy

With a freckled nose

And he went far away

But I didn't know where

Though I caught my dream

And I learnt to love

And I conquered the bad

I just know he'll be glad

But all I can do

Is think of the time

When he silently slept in my arms

There once was a boy

And he never came back

And I searched all around

But I soon gave up

When Anne had said

That his body was found

In the house of his abuser

I tried to cry

I tried to seem weak

But all I could do

Was watch the sky

Knowing he is the sun that sets down.
