In the middle of the night, The group of pilgrims were resting at the camp they set up hours before
Though the blue simian always found it hard to sleep due to their sensitive hearing picking up the several noises, Not just their uncle's snores but everyone and everything around
They try covering their 8 ears and even attempt to ignore everything, They grumble and get up from their resting space that was between Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing

Carefully stepping around their bodies and sneaking out the tent, Nearly stepping on Bai Long Ma's tail that was rested in front of the tent
Their leg stayed in the air as their arms wave about, Catching their balance with their tail automatically getting into position
The cub lets out a very quiet sigh of relief before walking around their dragon uncle's tail and whiskers, deciding to take a walk along the edge of the forest as they watch the fireflies dance about

Their ears twitch to the tree leaves shuffling as they stop dead in their tracks, whipping their head up at the trees as they heard hitched breathing
'Someone's panicking...'
The cub thought before running towards a tree and taking a leap, grabbing on to the branches and making their way up
Listening and following the panicked breathing until it suddenly disappeared, They crouched on a branch and scan the area they were in with their eyes

They squint their eyes as flashes of gold started to illuminate it, Getting a better look from far and wide but not seeing anything out of the ordinary which made them raise a brow in confusion
Their ears perk to warping from behind before they pan their eyes up to meet a white haired, battle scarred simian who had a smirk on his face
"Boo."
It happened so fast that Kito's fur went on end, losing balance on the branch from one of their feet sliding and tilting to the left as their arms waved around

The dark haired simian with a concerned expression quickly came out his portal and caught the kid by the side of their shirt, Lifting Kito up and simply sitting them down on the branch as he crouches
The two let out a sigh of relief
"Don't go scaring me like that, Twilight."
Macaque told with a chuckle as Kito gives a huffy pout

"Very funny coming from someone who likes to scare me every time he visits!"
Kito fired back and Macaque puts his hands up in defense
"Alright, Alright, Fair enough."
He responded with another chuckle and rests his arms on his lap, his tail swaying once
"You missed me?"
He asked with a raised brow and Kito's face lights up

"Always!"
The blue child exclaimed and hops to their feet on the branch, walking over to macaque and wrapping their arms around his neck
Macaque was caught a bit off guard by this gesture, Seeing the little one's tail wag made him crack a small toothy smile
Though he tried hard to keep his own tail from wagging as he hugs the kid back, He jolted a bit as he felt the kid suddenly climb up and get on his back
Kito's arms still around his neck as they giggle, He smiles again before getting up carefully and making his way down the tree

Once the two were on the ground, He moves his arms under their legs to support them
Starting to walk in the field filled with fireflies, Kito reaching an arm out trying to catch one
"Why are you up this late?"
He asked as he watched were he stepped
"Why are you?"
Kito questioned back as their tail wraps around Macaque's, He snickered at that

"Don't take that sass with me, Bud."
He warned as he walks a bit more, Eventually wrapping his tail around the cub and setting them down before he himself lays down on his back
Crossing his arms behind his head and talking the time to relax, Though that didn't last long as he felt the kid plop their butt on his stomach that made him hitch his breathe for a second
His eyes pan towards Kito who was staring at him with curiosity, Their tail still wagging about as Macaque raises a brow

"I know you told me not to question it, But why does your body change when I use the weird eye thing?"
They asked with a head tilt and Macaque sighs
"I also told you not to USE said weird eye thing, But here we are."
He told with a huff and knows that the kid won't stop wondering no matter how hard he tries to steer the conversation
"You really wanna know?"
He questioned and Kito instantly nods, Excited that they're finally gonna get an answer

Macaque's tail once again wraps around the middle section of Kito, Lifting the kid as he props himself into a crisscross position
Setting the kid on his lap who was waiting in anticipation, He smiles a bit
"Let's start with a basic explanation, Do you know what disguises are?"
He asked and Kito nods once
"It's the stuff you wear to hide your identity!"
They answered with glee as they gave a closed eye grin, Macaque surprised at how quickly they answered

"Well someone did their research."
He comments with a chuckle
"Now, For us demons.
We can use magic to create disguises or illusions, Whatever you want to call it.
We don't have to rely on using any physical material items to hide ourselves."
He explained and Kito tilts their head in curiosity
"But why are you hiding?"
His eyes widen a bit and he clears his throat nervously

"Heh, Well...
Same reason as any, Saftey."
He told in short and Kito was still rather confused, their eyes widen with worry
"You think I'm gonna hurt you?!"
They exclaimed in conclusion and Macaque winces at the volume, Kito gasped and is on the brink of tears
"I'm sorry-
I didn't mean to hurt you..."

Macaque sweats a bit before going to wipe the kid's tears away with his thumbs
"N-no!
It's alright, It happens and No.
I don't think you would hurt me, Not intentionally at least."
Kito's big eyes that still held tears stare up at him, Their paws resting on both his wrists gently
"So you won't use your illusion around me?"
Macaque stared into the kid's eyes with nervousness as he racks his brain for a response, They've already seen it a few times with their golden vision... So what was stopping him..?

"I think your real form is really pretty...a-and I read somewhere that scars just add to your beauty!"
They commented as they saw in his eyes that he was scared, His pupils grew in surprise as his face flushed red
Looking away quickly as he chuckled nervously
"Fine, Fine!
I'll drop the disguise, Just don't go saying embarassing stuff like that..."
He grumbled before a purple colored hue outlined his figure, his 2 other sets of ears sprouting as his hair and fur faded into a moon white
He opens his eyes as a scar had faded back into reality on the right side of his face, his sight panning back down to find the cub staring in awe and wonder that caused him to be a bit flustered again

The cub gets excited as their tail wags
"Now we match again!"
This made him raise a brow in confusion as he saw Kito grab their locks of hair as if searching for something, bunches of strands of moon white hair that was hidden under all that twilight blue fur
He stares in bewilderment that soon turned into awe, Kito giving a closed eye grin as they giggle
In his heart he felt a fuzzy yet warm feeling, He wanted to deny it but that would mean denying the kid who didn't see him as a bad guy
He couldn't tell-

He couldn't decide what he wanted to in this moment until he felt ting paws cup his face, Snapping him back to reality as he was face to face with Kito
"It's okay to cry."
The cub told with a reassuring tone and Macaque twitched in surprise, He felt the tears running down his face as he was in disbelief
How-
Why..?

Kito wraps their arms around his neck and gives him a big hug, Seeing someone else cry nearly made them want to cry as well
Macaque takes the time to process what was happening in this moment, He hasn't felt an embrace this warm in a long... long time...
He slowly wraps the kid in a gentle embrace, Something so fragile that he was... afraid to break...
For a moment he didn't want to blink, He didn't want this feeling to be gone... Not again...
