Chapter 2

(I realize that my last chapter was short so I'm going to be patient and make this one longer)

''Hey'' My breath caught.

"Asuma-sensei..." He was right behind my door.

"What's in this room?" Shikamarus words were painfully drawn out, my heart felt like it stopped.

The other three in the room turn to look at Shikamaru as he looked over the door. Asuma swallowed as he tried to think of something to say. "We're here all the time and been in each room but this is the only one that is never open." Shikamaru states his observation and his team mates nod in agreement. Choji asked a question first. "It's not a secret chip stash is it?" The others sweatdropped. Ino signed "Oh Choji, Asuma is nothing like you. I think its a whole room with pictures of Kuuuuurenaaai ♥" Inos voice became silky sweet when saying her. Their sensei instantly became flustered. "I'm not a creep Ino! Seriously both of your guesses are too far fetched.

"Then what is it?"

Asuma sighed, that's Shikamaru, straight to the point once his mind is set. Thinking that Kaiya has been a shut in for far to long, his face becomes serious and that sets the three genin on edge. All three look right at their teacher with full attention. "In there is a girl..." They gasp but make themselves silent when Asuma raises his hand to make them wait. "She is thirteen and I've been looking after her since she came to the village ten years ago. She is different from others and stays inside during the day." Their faces slowly showed understanding in place of shock. "Can we meet her?'' Ino asked hesitantly. Asuma shakes his head. "No. Until she feels like its time to show herself, I ask that you keep this a secret from the other genin and citizens." Ino, Choji, and Shikamaru agree to not speak a word. Shikamaru takes a step away from the door but freezes he hears a click. Looking over his should, he makes contact with a bright flame colored orb.

"H-hello....." The girl mumbled, most of her body hidden behind the door, her navy blue bangs fall over the top rim of her eye when she tilted her head. Movement caught his eye and his gaze travels upwards until its halted by a ear....a wolf ear.

Kaiya pov

Traitor!!! Asuma exposed me to these strangers! I was about to burst in there, sure he would make me come out after he told them everything, but stopped when Ino asked to see me. I tensed up and waited for Asumas answer. I was surprised when he explained that I have to decide for myself if I'm ready or not, and even more surprised that those three strangers promised to keep quiet. Looking down at my feet, I try to think. Asuma wants me to come out for once, not be a shut in. Deciding to face my fear, I open the door just as Shikamaru was about to walk away. "H-hello.....'' I say quietly. My ears lower nervously and he looks up.

"Asuma-sensei, she has ears!" Ino gasped in surprise as she stared at me. Gathering up more courage, I step out from behind the door with my head low and tail wrapping loosely around my legs. "And a Tail!" She shouts again causing me to flinch. I swallow the lump in my throat before looking up at their faces. They were all right in front of me now and all of them were a inch or two taller as well. "I'm.....Kaiya Mitsu." I see Ino move her mouth but I stop her. "I already know who you all are." She snaps her jaw shut before smiling. "It's nice to meet you Kaiya." She's friendly...that's a relief.

Many hours pass and instead of training, Asuma let them talk to me so I can know them better. Shikamaru was really smart and we share one thing in common, sleeping. Ino continued to be friendly, she told me I was adorable with my ears and tail and offered to take me shopping for cuter clothes since I only have oversized shirts and one pair of shorts. Of course she said 'only if you want to.' Choji and I had many common favorite foods but than again, he likes every food.

Right now I'm siting on Asu-nii's lap. "Its dark out Kaiya, you should go out before you get tired. But be careful." I look up at him curiously. "Why?" He lifts his lighter to the end of his cigarette but I snatch it away with a scowl on my face. He gives a sigh before looking out the window. "The chunin exams are in a week and ninjas from the other villages are already arriving." I give him a slight nod before jumping off his lap and launching myself through the open window. I wore my thin yukata under robe so I could feel the cool air his my skin. The wind flows through my hair as I leap across rooftop. Adrenaline pumps through my body as the moons silver light soaks into my skin. The moon was completely full, I can never sleep on a full moon.

The moon was full on that day too. It has nothing to do with me being a wolf, just on full moons, I have the worst of all my nightmares. I land on the Hokages building rooftop. Papa must be up still since the office light is on. With a smile on my lips, I shoot metal wires out of my wristbands and they wrap around one of the pillars. I jump off, the momentum I build up throws me straight into the window and over his head. Two anbu who were by the door whip out their weapons instantly. I ignore them though I feel slightly embraced, I'm wearing my sleepwear after all.

I dust off my hands and straighten my under robes collar. "Ah Kaiya, full moon keeping you up as usual?" I nod to him and turn around to face him. I hear the two anbu whispering once they notice my tail and ears. 'It's Night Wolf' 'never thought I'd get to see her up close' I tune out their murmurs and smile. "What kind of daughter would I be if I can't kiss my papa goodnight?" I smile and walk over, wrapping my arms around his neck, giving him a good squeeze.

I'm about to leave when Sarutobi stops me. "Kaiya. Careful out there tonight, a team from the hidden sand are here and that village isn't particularly friendly with us. "Of course papa." I smile again before jumping out the window. When I see the moon again, I feel a sadness build inside as memories of that day and how it was before fill my mind. Knowing what I must do to relieve myself, I hurry to the roof at the direct center of Konaha. It was where I howled the first full moon after my parents death, where I sang out my sorrows, where I got my name Night Wolf from those who had heard me. I stand on that roof with my eyes closed for a long time, preparing my feelings of sadness so I can push them out.

I breath in.

I slowly raise my head.

My lips part slightly.

I'm ready.
