Chapter 2 | An Element of Surprise

Come on! The blog's name must have been a huge clue after they had discovered Matthias' connection with the case! Didn't no one think of checking his website?

How could they be so bad at this investigation, and, most importantly, how did they manage to fool her for this long? Now, that was embarrassing for Macy's brand too!

"He should have brought this quest to me," She mumbled to Foxy in frustration, "But then again, I can see why 'Miss Wallace, would you help me to find Giselle Torre so that she can tell you she gave birth to you before my brother tells it to the world?' would be such a weird thing to say. So, I don't really blame him." She clarified, making a face as Foxy didn't seem so impressed with her imitation of the villain's hoarse, commanding tone.

Even Eric had found it out first with that thick head of his and had the audacity to threaten her own villain as if he was his enemy! Nope. Everyone should know their places -

"Macy,"

And he dared to knock on her door, apparently.

"Yes?" Macy asked in impatience, stopping pacing around the room as she caught the coin.

"Is everything okay?" He asked behind the door as if he cared, getting Foxy's ears to perk up.

Well, he probably did care and hoped for the worst.

"Couldn't be more perfect," Macy muttered, rolling her eyes and approaching to the closed door, "Have you talked to Gerard?"

"No, he didn't answer his phone -" Eric replied tentatively, and Macy pulled open the door to see his giant figure standing there. Stirring a little funnily, he glanced down and took in her new attire, "You are wearing his t-shirt," He muttered absently, "Like a dress."

Oh, wow. That was the mastermind behind the evil plan that forced the villain into the family business. But, hey, in the end, they somehow managed to turn the tables and make a new stupid, ridiculous game out of it by getting married. So... yay?

"I even used his hairbrush," Macy deadpanned, throwing and catching the coin, "But, like a hairbrush."

The puzzlement hardened into Eric's hardened features despite his efforts to school it off as he tilted his head, "Is he," He drew the words in hesitation, "Aware that you are here? Because I feel like he'd tell me."

Honestly? He was going to be so heartbroken when he discovered they didn't even invite him to the wedding.

Parting her lips, Macy was about to retort when the sound of sharp footsteps followed by a soft bang coming from downstairs reverberated in the air. Perhaps, she would have thought nothing of it, if it hadn't been for the slightest relaxation etching itself on Eric's face through the tightened lines; although they returned just as easily when she narrowed her eyes on him.

"You had a company?" Macy asked, stepping around his frame in pursuit of a new mission.

"No, I didn't," Eric said in contrast to how fast he caught her upper arm to prevent her from reaching the stairs, "It was just the wind –"

Trying to shake her arm off his iron grip, Macy made a face, "You know I'd believe you if you said a ghost or something! There were literally footsteps –"

"The tv is on –" Eric attempted to explain with a carefully placed smile, still holding her arm tightly with a vague warning gleaming in his blue eyes, "It must have been –"

The rest of his lie turned out to be a silent curse as Foxy darted out from the bedroom and clamped his jaw down on the fabric of his jeans, growling and trying to pull him away from her. Eric obeyed his demand easily, letting go of her arm as if he knew that was the only thing that would stop Foxy.
