night time was a peaceful time, a time of serenity and peace among the whole of teyvat. a perfect time for many things to occur
jean and diluc admired the star studded sky together from a quiet field in springvale. it wasn't too far from the winery as they needed to get back with ease due to the recent unpredictable weather. this was something diluc did not enjoy
suddenly a rumble of thunder was heard as it began to rain lightly
"jean.. we need to go back home now" diluc said slightly nervously
loud noises did not appeal to diluc. he wasn't frightened by thunder or loud noises in general but they gave him headaches and made him feel unwell
the two got up "let's go" jean said, clutching onto his hand
by the time they had made it to the winery, the rain got heavier and the thunder and lightning started to become more frequent
both of them were wet due to the rain which made their clothes all damp and soggy. this texture was unbearable for jean so she excused herself to change into something more comfortable and went back to diluc
"do you need anything? a drink? some food?" she asked
"i'm fine" he replied whilst burying his head in pillows as the noise of thunder got louder
"we should go upstairs, you should probably get changed out of your soggy clothes into something warmer" she suggested
he went upstairs and got changed, as he was doing this jean grabbed a book to begin reading later
she went upstairs and knocked at the door to check on him, he allowed her to enter and they both sat down on the bed
"i'm not sure how i'm going to go out later on" diluc complained, hinting at his business of the darknight hero that jean knew about
"then don't go anywhere. you don't need to go out all the time you know"
"i know-" he hesitated "but i wanted to help you out by fighting mondstadt's threats"
"aww you know you don't need to do that, you have already done enough for me" she smiled
he laid down and he rested his head on jean's lap
"but it's not enough for you to stop stressing about the safety of mondstadt, is it?"
jean sighed and gave a faint smile "it's my job to worry about that, and besides the city has been safer so you needn't worry of the dangers, amber has it all covered" she reassured him
"i'm not the one who needs to hear that" he said smugly "tell that to yourself"
"oh you-" she said, shocked at his remark. she grabbed a pillow and lightly hit him with it
he smirked and chuckled at the sight of his future wife acting so playful. it's a side of her that he had never expected to see but was grateful that he was one of the lucky few who got to see her like this
she opened her book and started skimming through the pages, finding the page she finished on before
"vera's melancholy again?" he questioned
"it's my favourite, hush" she responded
"so which character reminds you of me then? since i'm assuming you associate yourself with the character who is looking for a love interest" he asked sheepishly
this remark caused jean's cheeks to flush to a pinkish colour "none...." she said
"i suppose you associate me with the man who is charming, strong and handsome" he chuckled
"well... you're not as charming as the character is, not even half as charming!" she said jokingly
"is that so?"
"yes, indeed it is"
"so this isn't charming of me?" he enquired as he sat up and gave her a kiss that felt like it lasted a lifetime
"maybe i'll consider having second thoughts" she said, coming to her conclusion
"that's what i thought" he smirked
"sure you did" she chuckled
he didn't respond for a while and jean continued reading her book. once she had got tired she put her book down only to realise she would now face a terrible decision
she stayed very still at the realisation she either had to stay there until he woke up or moved off of her or she had to move herself to put the book away. she decided to stay where she was until he moved.. that was until she also fell asleep waiting for him to move
jean learned a valuable lesson that day and it was that diluc was the most charming man of all teyvat
