Cognitive Functions

Hello again.

Here is some terminology you will have to get familiar with:

- Cognitive functions/function
- Dominant, auxiliary, tertiary, inferior
- Introverted/extroverted
- Sensing/intuition
-Thinking/feeling
-Judging/perceiving

Now don't worry if you don't remember what all of this means. You'll know about it on the way. It will absorb really easily like a sponge. You may already know what some things mean, but you may actually be surprised to know that they have new meanings you never expected.

Now, let's settle.

Have you ever heard of 16personalities.com? If you have, you're slightly advantaged, because you will now know that 16personalities.com is a hoax. That is, if you haven't already fallen into the trap.

16personalities is not MBTI. It is Big 5 in DISGUISE.

❗SKIP TO THE STAR BELOW IF YOU DON'T CARE.

If you don't know Big 5, it measures openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Some people think they should add a humour factor but I don't, that's fairly subjective I guess.

People high in openness are very creative. People low in it are very down to earth and practical. People high in conscientiousness are more comfortable with planning, people low in it are more go-with-the-flow.

High-scorers in extroversion get energy being around others. People low in it get energy being alone and drain from social interactions.

People that are high in agreeableness may really value putting other's needs in front of their own and they are usually quite into group harmony. People low in agreeableness are good at standing up for what they believe is right.

Individuals who are high in neuroticism are more cautious people. They would have survived well long ago if dinosaurs were around. If not balanced enough, they can get stressed too easily. People low in neuroticism don't stress easily but can be a bit reckless if they are not balanced.

Big 5 is also commonly called: OCEAN, CANOE, whatever other words you can make out of those letters. You get the gist.

But this is not about Big 5. That was just for context. Now the reason that we should not trust 16p if we can't accurate typing is because of that: it's not MBTI. It measures all those Big 5 factors and adds an extra letter slot at the end of the four letter code: A or T. Assertive/turbulent. That links in to the neuroticism factor in Big 5. See how sketchy it is? You can do the test for fun, but for me personally, I see not fun at all in believing a lie and laughing with your friends about it. But it's your choice.

16p measures on letters. As soon as you say you'd rather read a book one time instead of going to a 7 hour birthday party full of people you don't know, it says you're an introvert. As soon as you say you have an imagination, it says you're an intuitive. As soon as you say you have feelings, it says you're a feeler. If you say you like planning occasionally, it says you're a judger. And god forbid the A/T factor.

All of this is rubbish. Do not believe it. Most of its users are likely a bunch of 13 year olds sending this test as a link to their friends to complete. It's not for accurate purposes. It's more of something you can do for fun, but if you're serious about MBTI, you would not take this test.

You may have already heard lots of people talking about how bad 16p is, so I'll be quiet now. It's just an important point and is for your own wellbeing. Know that.

So you may be asking: if I don't take 16p, what do I do?

Rest assured, please. I don't really recommend taking any tests at all. But if you're held at gunpoint and have to take a test (would that ever happen?), I would recommend Michael Caloz. You can just look up "Michael Caloz MBTI" in your search engine. It measures your traits based off something called cognitive functions. It also gives you examples so if you're like me, you do not end up interpreting everything in a million different ways giving you the wrong result.
