Chapter 7: All about...

Start from the beginning

"Don't scare him, Cruor." Psyche spoke up, rubbing their face.

The flower snapped its head around, into the direction of Psyche. Its mouth was closing slowly. I was stunned, my head in a fog. It almost looked like it was pouting.

"What the hell is that thing?" I asked as calmly as I could, panic was slowly replacing my disbelief. "Why does this flower move on its own?"

"This is Cruor Florere, Cruor for short." They answered, leaning back in their chair. "She is our little companion and barely ever shows her alive face, really." They began to play with the flower, as she was holding onto Psyche's finger with the five weird appendages coming from her mouth. "She probably just wanted to make this conversation easier for us."

"Easier?" My panic settled as my confusion began to grow, watching the flower wiggle her stem like a snake on the ground, making her look like she was dancing.

"There are things in this world that hide from the human sight." Psyche began. "There were times, where everyone lived in harmony, not lying about their real identity, but those never lived long, sadly. Conflicts came from both sides, so there is not really anyone to blame but collective stupidity and ignorance. Then, there are those who cannot help it and must feast on humans to survive. Naturally, humans defend themselves and strive to hunt them. That is another side. And then there are those who don't want anything to do with either and just want to exist in peace. Becoming either more human like in appearance or learn to open portals to parallel universes and flee or just learn to hide better. All achieved through the normal way of evolution."

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked, though I had a feeling where this was going and things started to click in my head. "What has that to do with the documents?"

"In the last one hundred and a half years, humans have become a lot more aggressive." Psyche continued, as Cruor left the hat and started to hold onto Psyche's hand. "Now, those who know about these other beings strive to erase them from human history and plan to eradicate them. Thus, they plan ways to make it easier for themselves and less obvious to the rest of the human population."

They stuck their free hand into the mountain of their neck fluff and pulled out the papers. My eyes were nearly falling out of my head as I watched the paper land on the table. I stared at them for a second, before looking at the plush again. Then back to Psyche who seemed unbothered by it and just stared at the documents.

"These children were all kidnaped at a young age." They continued. "None of them know their parents or the rest of their family, in most cases. Their only purpose to their captors, is, to find their limits of the respective species. Once the children are broken enough, they are released to starve on the streets. It's the easiest way, less time consuming and involves also less money."

I picked up the papers and looked through them. It was Crystal, Nore and... after Nore was the picture of a young, very weak looking girl with leafs instead of hair. The next was a young boy with a fishtail in a tank. A child with wings for arms and bird claws for legs. Something akin to a dog with a hand at the end of their tail and the list went on. All looked malnourished, beaten down and many had lost the light in their eyes. Sometimes I wasn't even sure if they were still alive.

"What we have to do with this." Psyche spoke up anew, as Cruor had found her way to their hair. "We're trying to find a way to get these people to stop without shedding blood." Psyche rubbed their face, seemingly not pleased with the entire situation. "It's stupid, and we really shouldn't care about some humans who want to play ruler of the planet. We're petty. We know we are and we're also so very brutal and there is nothing we want to do more than just let these bastards suffer..." They sighed. "But if we did that they might see this as an invitation to start a full on war on everything not human but in the category 'abnormal'. Even though the chances are in our favour, there are still so many lives that could be lost without return. This would just be worse than what is going on now. Roles might reverse and now the humans would be on the receiving end. We do not belong to the fan club Human, like many others are, but life is life and we rather cut our own existence off than commit genocide."
