How did that alarm clock get on my night stand? I scratched my head in confusion and walked toward the remnants of the noisy tool. Maybe I just forgot I have one in the first place... I kicked the pieces in front of me. Had is probably the better word.

Slowly I started to collect the clock pieces and left my still rather dark room. In the kitchen I threw everything away, before starting to stretch my half asleep body. One quick glance to the clock of the microwave told me that it was six in the morning. When was the last time I was up this early...?

Suddenly the smell of pancakes reached me. Confused for a second time this morning I looked around and found a plate with said pancakes standing on the kitchen counter. Two forks were laid on top of two other plates while a bottle of maple syrup was placed next to them. My body stiffened as I felt my neck hair rising.

...My grandparents never come by so early!

Suddenly the silent noise of the electronic shutters in my room started to make a sound. I felt my stomach churn as now everything in me was screaming. Carefully I took a kitchen knife from the wall and silently stepped back toward my room. How I knew that it was the one in my room? Because it was the only one I ever let down. I still can't believe how carefree and lazy I was back then. In my sideways walk I stepped along the wall, stopping right next to the door frame. The sound was still coming from my room. A plan began to unfold in my head as with the sound, the intruder wouldn't possibly be able to hear me.

With new found confidence I took a deep breath. Only when I stepped through the frame I remembered the lesson my grandparents had given me of calling them or the police if things like this were to happen. It was too late for that now as my eyes widened in disbelieve and horror.

"What are you doing here?" I asked the first thing that came to my mind as I saw them, my body halting on its own. The grip around the knife in my hand tighten moments later as I felt myself ready to fight to the death. ...Yeah, I was a stupid child.

"Rolling up your shutters." Came the simple answer. The shutter had reached the top, but was still making noise, as the other tried to hit the stop button without looking at it.

"No, what are you looking for, in my house?" I asked them, trying not to lose my cool.

"The stop button." I could already hear that stupid grin on their face, as they still missed the button – on purpose.

Slowly I was reaching my limit with this person. I took in a silent frustrated breath, before letting it out again. "How did you get in here?!" I rephrased my question anew.

"Through the door frame." Still feeling for the button.

Is this person trying to be infuriating?! "How. Did. You. Get. In. My. House?!" Just push that blade up their spine and you will feel so much better! They can't convict you yet and even if they do you can say it was self-defence!

"Aha! Found it!" Psyche called out in triumph, pushed the button and turned toward me. "Your... whoa! Buddy look at that blade! Nice stuff you have there but we doubt you need a knife to eat pancakes. Anyway, your door was open and so we invited ourselves in. No place to sleep and all, you know, not to mention it's getting quite warm out there. But no worries, we locked the door behind us. You gotta be more careful! Be glad that it was only us and not a burglar or other shady folk."

"Since when are you here?" I ignored their ramble.

"Since midnight." Their smile widened for a second as if they thought of something funny. "...we think."
