"Don't worry. I wasn't planning to do that," Sawyer reassured Phoebe. "Although, you know," she said, turning to Teddy and Dora, "I think I've decided."
Teddy raised an eyebrow at this. She didn't see how any of this persuaded Sawyer towards the saxophone, but she supposed it didn't matter. She was just happy that Sawyer found an instrument she wanted to learn. Meanwhile, Dora was just as expressionless as always.
"Huh?" Phoebe asked, confused.
"So this instrument is the saxophone, right?" Sawyer asked, pointing at the saxophone yet again.
"Well, the tenor saxophone, to be precise," Phoebe specified, nodding.
"Got it," Sawyer said, nodding. "Thanks, Phoebe!"
"You're welcome," Phoebe nodded back, before retreating to talk to Felicity and Bella once more.
Teddy quickly typed into her AAC app. "So are we all ready to tell Mrs. Regenbogen which instruments we want to learn this year?"
Dora nodded and Sawyer responded with a "yeah". Thus, all three of them headed towards the instructor.
"Hi, I'm Sawyer Carpenter and this Teddy and Dora," Sawyer said, gesturing to each other girl when it was appropriate. "I'd like to learn the tenor saxophone, Teddy here wants to learn the piano, and Dora wants to learn how to play the flute."
"Alright," Mrs. Regenbogen said, writing it all down. "I know all of those instruments are in this room, but I recommend still buying that instrument to bring into the classroom for your own use, Sawyer and Dora. It's more hygienic that way. Also, I don't have a Teddy on my roster, but I have a Theadora here, so I'm guessing that's you, Teddy?"
Teddy nodded, before typing onto her AAC app. "By the way, I'm nonverbal and use this app to communicate, so it might limit what roles I can play in the drama part of your class."
"Lo siento, no hablo ingles," Dora added as another obstacle for the drama section of the class.
"Oh, don't worry, girls," Mrs. Regenbogen said, "There are still plenty of non-speaking roles in theater. And I still have some time to plan since the drama portion of this class will be tomorrow."
"Alright, thank you, Mrs. Regenbogen," Sawyer said happily, as Teddy and Dora both gave nods of gratitude as well. As they all went back into the center of the room, Teddy heard Ellie call out to her.
"Hi, Teddy. How was lunch?" Ellie asked.
Teddy scrolled through the list of her saved phrases. "It was good," the automated voice said. She started typing again. "Sawyer here introduced Dora and me to her upperclassman friends. How was yours?"
"It was fine. Lou was nice as always, but one of the other boys he hangs out with gets on my nerves for some reason," Ellie sighed.
"Oh, sorry to hear that," Sawyer said, "but you know my offer of letting you sit with us still stands, right?"
Ellie nodded. "Thanks, I'll think about it. Your offer sounds nice, but Lou is so cool that it's hard to consider giving up my spot at the table with him."
"I guess I can understand that," Sawyer said, nodding. Teddy thought that maybe Sawyer might be referring to how elegant Lola seems or how daring Talia is, but instead, Sawyer continued with, "Now, that I'm in the same school as her, I want to stay at the same table as Gale. She's so cool! She always keeps a hold onto her reasoning and common sense. That's very admirable!"
"Yeah, those are very good traits to have," Ellie agreed.
The four girls continued conversing until the class was over. As they headed out of the classroom, Teddy noticed that one person didn't seem to choose an instrument in time and was told by Mrs. Regenbogen to stay until he chose one.
"Uh, the drums over there then," Teddy heard Liam say, before seeing him bolt out of the room.
"Hey, aren't we not supposed to run in the halls?" Ellie asked, turning and frowning at the running boy.
"And isn't he going the wrong way?" Sawyer asked. "Our next class is this way."
Teddy typed into her AAC app once more, and upon hitting enter, shrugged her shoulders for emphasis. "That sounds like a him problem."
Author's note: Sorry for the super late update. College was busy, and to be honest, I'm kind of getting tired of having to write out every single period, but luckily, I only have two more and maybe an after school scene or two before we can move past the first day and stop writing every single period.
Phoebe Regenbogen and her mom, Mrs. Regenbogen, are Puffball and Puffball Speaker Box respectively. Yes, I know, Phoebe starts with a different sound than Puffball, but I wanted a name that not only started with a P, but also one with a B in it.
Liam is Lightning and Bella is Bell.
As for the instruments, I did a bit of research into some of it, but I don't play any, so yeah, take that as a disclaimer.
Some real quick reasoning on instruments:
Phoebe/Puffball: Guitar and Piano and Violin and of course, her voice. Why? Seems like a musical type. Just went with all the instruments included in the Sims 4 (or at least the base game) so I didn't have to think too hard about what instruments she should already know.
Bella/Bell: Harp. Yes, I know bells are technically instruments but they don't really seem like types that would come to mind when asked if you are proficient in any instruments. Besides, wanted one in the string family since she has a string.
Dora: Flute. Idk, I kinda chose this one randomly.
Teddy/Teardrop: Piano. Well, the keyboard joke she mentioned in this chapter, but also because piano means quiet. (Although, technically, it's full name is pianoforte, which means quiet loud, but whatever)
Lola/Lollipop: Cello. Wanted her to play an elegant instrument that isn't too high pitched. Came up when I searched "elegant instruments"
Talia/Taco: Guitarron Mexicano. I felt it was only right to give her an instrument popular in Mexico.
Gale/Gaty: Trombone. Again, this was somewhat random.
Leah/Leafy: Clarinet. Wanted to give her a woodwind since leaves are associated with wind.
Penelope/Pin: Clarinet. My inner Leafpin shipper just thought it would be cute if they played the same instrument 👉👈
Sawyer/Saw: Tenor saxophone. Somewhat random, but probably because Saw and Saxophone both start with an S and an A.
Liam/Lightning: Drums. Well, Lightning precedes thunder, which kind of sounds like a drum, so...
Other ideas: I want Ferris/Firey and Connor/Coiny to choose the same instrument, so they can compete with each other over who's better. I also think Priscilla/Pencil and Maddie/Match would choose the same instrument as each other because, you know, they're besties.
Anyway, I'm going to end it here for now.
