Chapter 9: A Second Witness
Howard
Howard went to talk to the director Hank Rowley. "Did you ever work with Alex Dashwood?" Howard asks. "Yes, I was directing the movie King Henry V. Alex got to play King Henry V," Hank replied. "What do you think about Alex? Was Alex easy to get along with?" Howard asks. "I thought he was kind of weird, but he was a great actor. He was bothering a woman named Molly Greenwood. Molly was fifteen years older than Alex. Alex was making a pass at her. Molly like guys her own age and she tries to tell Alex that. Alex kept bothering her, so she asks me to talk to him," Hank replied.
"I did talk to Alex and he stopped bothering Molly. A year after the film was finished, Molly was attacked at her home. Molly told the police that she believes Alex Dashwood was the one that attacked her, but the police did not have enough evidence to make an arrest," Hank got finished explaining. "Do you have Molly's address?" Howard asks. "Yes, I do," Hank replied. Hank gave Howard Molly's address. Howard calls Victoria. "I am finished with the movie. I'm going back to New York. There was an actress named Molly Greenwood. Alex was bothering her. I am going to talk to Molly to see what I can find out about Alex," Howard replied.
Howard finished talking to Victoria and he went to talk to Molly. "Miss Greenwood, my name is Howard Griffin. I am helping my wife investigate George Rollin's murder. We believe Alex Dashwood or another member of his family had something to do with George's death," Howard replied. "I never believed that Dana had killed her husband. Was Dana having an affair with Alex?" Molly asks. "No, she was having an affair with his brother Adam," Howard replied. "Alex told me about his brother Adam, but I never met him," Molly replied. "Hank Rowley told me that Alex was bothering you," Howard queries. "Yes, he was bothering me, but it was my fault," Molly replied.
"What do you mean?" Howard asks. "I started talking to Alex and we went out to eat a couple of times. I did not think Alex was attractive to me. I was older than him and I thought he was looking for a woman his own age. One day Alex told me that he liked me and he wanted us to start dating. I told him I did not date younger men, but he did not take no for an answer. Alex started stalking me, but he did stop bothering me when Hank talked to him. A year after the movie was finished, I was attacked in my home. I believe Alex was the one that attacked me, but the police did not believe me," Molly replied.
"There was one police officer that did believe me, but he could not do much," Molly replied. "What was the police officer's name?" Howard asks. "Steve Sloan. I was living in California and that is where the attack happens," Molly replied. Howard went home after talking to Molly. Howard calls Steve Sloan. "Hello, is this Steve Sloan?" Howard asks. "No, this is his dad Mark Sloan. What can I help you with?" Mark asks. "This is Howard Griffin. I really need to talk to your son," Howard requested. "If you give me your phone number I will have Steve call you," Mark replied.
Steve
Steve came home. "Steve, a man named Howard Griffin called you and he needs to talk to you," Mark replied. "Did Howard tell you what he wanted?" Steve asks. "No, he gave me his phone number," Mark replied. "I will call him," Steve replied. "Hello, this is Steve Sloan my dad told me that you call me," Steve replied. "Yes, I did. I am helping my wife investigate the murder of George Rollin. We do not believe George's wife killed him. Dana was having an affair with Alex Dashwood's brother Adam," Howard replied. "Do you think Alex or Adam have something to do with George's death? Alex is in a mental hospital and Adam has been in a coma for ten years," Steve replied.
"I do know that Alex has been in a mental hospital and Adam has been in a coma. I do not know if Alex or Adam had anything to do with George's death. I do know Alex has something to do with Barbara Brooks' death. Barbara was having an affair with Alex and he started stalking her," Howard explained. "Alex and Adam were a bunch of Casanovas," Steve replied. "I think Alex and Adam's uncle is paying the police to keep quiet. The British police were in a hurry to rule Barbara's death a suicide," Howard replied. "I heard about Alex and Adam's uncle. Jeremy Dashwood's son Sean does not have anything to do with his father," Steve replied.
"Where does Sean live?" Howard asks. "Sean lived in California," Steve replied. "I need to talk to him. I am coming to California to talk to Sean," Howard replied. Howard calls Victoria. "I am going to California to talk to Jeremy Dashwood's son Sean," Howard replied. "Howard, please be careful," Victoria pleaded. "You should be careful too," Howard replied. Howard got packed and he got ready to go to California.
