Day & Night
We came a long way
And finally met
I want to hold you tight
(Day & Night, Jung Seung Hwan)
Joong-Gil stood, stunned by what he had just discovered.
He ran his hands over his face, trying to stop thinking about it. It was unbelievable. He had never... he had never even considered it.
He hadn't even realized that he was crying.
Angry, he walked over to the table, grabbed the file, and tore the pages off. It was impossible that this was real. There was no way he could have acted that way with Si-eun. There was no way that she had died for him.
The fact that she knew everything only made him feel worse. He needed to see her, needed to apologize.
Walking toward the door, he opened it, walking out of the office.
— What are you doing here? - Si-eun asked in surprise, getting up.
Joong-Gil ignored the looks the other reapers gave him, moving closer to Si-eun.
She looked exhausted, as if she hadn't slept in ages. And yet, he could not help but admire her features. How her eyes possessed a glow that mesmerized him, or how her purple painted eyelids only further highlighted the brown of her eyes. Her mouth was small and delicate. And how the moles she had all over her face made her more beautiful than she already was. And how the color purple seemed to have been created for her.
He approached, eager.
— We need to talk.
Si-eun squinted, crossing her arms.
— We have nothing to talk about.
— Yes, we do. - he said, looking at her seriously.
She watched him intently, and seemed to understand what was going on.
Denying, she stepped back.
— No, at least not right now. We are working on a case and I don't have time for this.
— Si-eun, I need to talk to you. - he insisted, feeling despair begin to spread through his body. - You can't postpone this conversation.
— She already said she doesn't want to talk. - Jun-woong spoke up, positioning himself so that he was between the two of them.
Joong-Gil looked at him, arching an eyebrow and stepping forward.
— I'm not talking to you.
— This is not the best time for discussion. - Koo Ryeon cut in. — What's so urgent that you can't wait a few hours? - She looked at Joong-Gil, curious.
— I don't think it's any of your business.
— Well, then it will have to wait.
Joong-Gil snorted.
— I already said it is-
He stopped talking when he heard a noise.
The three reapers looked in the direction of the noise, and Joong-Gil's eyes widened when he realized that Si-eun was lying on the ground, unconscious.
He walked over to her, pushed Jun-woong aside, and knelt beside Si-eun's body, concern on his face.
He took her in his arms, slunging one of Si-eun's arms over his shoulder, holding her gently.
— What are you doing? - Jun-woong asked.
— I'm taking her to my office. - Joong-Gil answered, looking around. - You don't even have a couch here. Do you intend to leave her on the floor?
