Hold Her While You Can

L- We appreciate that. Thank you so much.

M- Of course. Anything for my daughter's future wif—

Y/N- Okay, would you look at that. Looks like it's time to board. I'll give you a call when we land. I love you, bye!

Y/N ended the call rather abruptly as she put her phone back in her pocket. She gave me an awkward smile, pulling me in for a side hug. I chuckled at how flustered she got while we both leaned on each other's head. She kissed the back of my palm multiple times, making my heart smile with us.

When it was finally time to board, I couldn't be more happier. They scanned our tickets, and ushered us to our seats. Y/N took it upon herself to put both of our stuff in the overhead bin. She took the blanket out before closing it, and laying it out on me. She settled a gentle kiss on my forehead, slightly ruffling my hair before taking a seat right next to me.

The airline did their usual safety talk. I'm very attentive with my surroundings so I paid attention for the most part. Y/N, on the other hand, was too occupied looking at the window then somewhere else as the plane moved slowly. She nervously ran her hands across her lap as they trembled in fear.

"Are you okay, love?"

It took her a second to respond, "Uh, yeah. Just a bit scared, that's all."

My heart aches just a little watching her try to control her fear all that she can. My gaze followed her trembling hands, and slowly but surely, I slid my hand in between the cracks of her own, making sure that I'm handling her with tenderness and care.

"I'll keep you safe, darling." I expressed. "Always and Forever."

Relief washes over her as a smile slowly formed on her delicate lips. It was her eyes that told me how much she fully trusted me all of her. There wasn't any single doubt in her mind that I would ever let go. Not now. Not tomorrow. Not ever. We're each other's sanctuary.

As the plane began to ascend, Y/N buried her face against the crook of my shoulder. It wasn't that I found her misery funny but I couldn't help but laugh a little. There was something heartwarming about how she's relying on me. Maybe because it has always been the other way around, and she's always taking care of me and making sure I'm okay. I never knew how much I wanted to take care of her until now.

When we eventually reached cruising altitude, she became comfortable. We shared earphones while we watched a random movie that played on the screen. Her head still remained comfortably resting on my shoulder, and every once in a while, I would find myself admiring such a simple, but heartstopping moment. If I could, I would stay in this moment for as long as I could.

And when she drifted to sleep completely, I turned off the movie, and carefully took the earbuds out of her ear. I kissed her forehead a couple of times, my gaze glued at our intertwined hands before I fell asleep with her.

My eyes fluttered open as I lazily gained consciousness. Before I could make any sort of movements, I stopped when I realized that Y/N was still asleep on my shoulder. I couldn't help but smile at the faint sound of her snoring because it's so damn adorable.

"There's.. uh, I want to.." Y/N mumbles in her sleep. "I.. uhm.. would you.. mar.. marr.. marry me?"

It was like time stood still. I could feel and hear the sound of my heart beat, and the blood that rushes through my veins. A single tear fell upon my eye, a tear of joy, a sense of happiness, made everything that I've ever known before her, gray and meaningless. Hearing those words come out of her mouth did something to me. Life before her was bland. But, a sight of her, and our memories together made everything ten times better.
