"Sometimes you can't always stay ahead of the press," His dad says, eyes squinted in that same way he always smiles at the cameras. It all sorts of wrong. "Sometimes, you have to just go along with whatever they say because at that point no one is going to believe otherwise!"
"They'll say cry and you're going to sob, they'll say jump and you will fly," His dad says again, softly. Like when he is reminiscing college days with Uncle Rodhey, with that same twinge of bitterness.
Screw that, he thinks. He will kick, claw, and pull his own dead-weight up to heaven or whatever he has to do to make them believe. He refuses to play a role in their games.
(He will one day watch his father break down on his phone in middle school, period 5 lunch, surrounded by the strangers he calls friends, and he will think, "You have fallen too far behind. They have caught up and you will be made to drown before they say breathe."
His father is Icarus, he is Daedalus. He is his own melting wings; his own ruthless, merciless sun that will be the death of him. (Katsuki is Ariadne, he is Theseus. He is his own heavy-strung wire tied taught around his wrist, he is the labrynth itself. And somedays, somedays he is the minotaur.))

[Tony Stark is majorly fucked up as an adult and only starts getting (questionably) better after Iron Man and he'd be a horrible father for the first 10-15 years of Katsuki's life because he's in a rapid decline of all things Mental And Physical, but he'd probably get there eventually. (I love Tony but mans was A Lot and having a kid wouldn't fix that.)]
[Might write more for this au.]
