Si-eun blinked, realizing that there was someone else in the office.
- I'm sorry. - she said, stepping back.
Joong-Gil looked at the reaper who was sitting in front of him, dismissing her.
When the woman left, he looked at Si-eun.
- Well? What do you want?
Approaching in uncertain steps, she stopped a few meters away from him.
Maybe it had been a mistake to go that far.
- I ... heard the conversation you had with Koo Ryeon earlier.
He frowned slightly, and then looked at her angrily, tensing his jaw.
- You-
- I wasn't prying! - she replied before he could say anything. - I was in the office, and coincidentally overheard your conversation.
Si-eun noticed him close his eyes, clench his hands into fists, and take a deep breath.
After a few seconds, he looked up again.
- What do you want?
She didn't know exactly what she wanted.
- I need to tell you something, - she felt nervousness spread through her body. - For years I've been dreaming about you. And I didn't think it had any meaning, but then I came to Jumadeung and saw you. And since then my nightmares have been more recurrent, and Koo Ryeon told me that they might be reminders of my past life. And hearing the conversation you had, I decided to come here because I need to know something. - She spoke in distress, approaching him and leaning her hands on the table, staring at him. - Do you remember me? Was I in your past life?
Joong-Gil looked at her, and then looked away.
- No.
For some reason, his answer made her sad. She stepped back, feeling her eyes water. Why had it made her so sad to hear his answer?
- Oh. Thank you for... being honest. - she whispered, turning and walking quickly out of the office.
When she was far enough away, she leaned against one of the hallway walls, letting the tears fall.
This was ridiculous.
She was being dramatic.
But then... why did her heart hurt so much?
Si-eun looked at the two distinctly colored shadows in her hands. One pink and one purple.
She sighed, undecided. She didn't know which one to choose. Turning to the side, she showed the two colors to her friend.
"Which one suits me best?", she asked.
"The pink one is beautiful, ma'am! So is the purple one. Either one suits you."
Si-eun pouted. That answer hadn't helped at all.
Looking out the window, she widened her eyes when she saw Joong-Gil walking near the lake. Maybe he could help her.
Going outside, she ran toward him, almost tripping on the way. Gasping for breath, she stopped inches away from him and showed the two shadows to him.
Arching an eyebrow, Joong-Gil looked at her curiously.
"What?"
"Which color suits me best?"
Snorting, he rolled his eyes.
"I thought it was something important."
"I need an opinion, and it's something quick. Come on, help me out," she ordered.
She watched him anxiously as he analyzed the colors.
"I hate that color.", he said, pointing toward the pink shade, and then pointed toward the purple shade. "So I'll choose that one."
Si-eun frowned.
"Why don't you like that color?"
He shrugged.
"I just don't like it."
She nodded, accepting the answer. Tilting her head, she bid him farewell, and then walked away, smiling as she observed the color he had chosen.
