The breeze was light, the sun was shining the fragrance of roses was in the air, and in a distance wedding bells jingled. The wedding guests stood up and clapped and the newly married couple kissed, and then holding hands, walked down the aisle. Audrey was finally married to Callan, the man of her dreams, whom she had loved for a long long time. She had waited so long for this very moment.
Walking out of the wedding venue, Audrey said to Callan, "Now that you're my husband, I would like to introduce you to my friends. Would you come with me this evening?" Callan smiled and answered, "Why not dear? If my wifey is so amazing, I'm sure her friends would be too." Audrey smiled, but there was this weird glint in her eyes that he couldn't quite unsee.
In the evening, Audrey drove Callan to an old graveyard in the town. He was quite confused as to why she had brought him there, but he still went with her. She walked and walked, finally stood in front of a small castle like structure and spoke in a low voice. Callan followed her in as the wooden door creaked open. Inside was a neatly arranged wooden table, with a deck of cards on top of it, and around it were sitting six young women with eyes fixed on Callan as he walked in. Audrey went over and hugged each one of them, one by one. She then turned to Callan and explained, "Hubby, these are my friends I wanted you to meet. Here's Hailey, that's Sylvie,Josie, Rosie, Ary, and Miley." She pointed to all the women, introducing them. All the young women said hello to him in unison. "Hi" he greeted them.
"Sit down, you must be exhausted". A
woman who was wearing a blue dress and had chocolate brown hair, who Audrey introduced as Hailey, pulled a chair and offered it to Callan. He nervously sat down, and asked Audrey, "Dear, what's with the table and the game set up?" Audrey smiled and answered, "Oh, its game night!" "Game night?!?" "You see, me and my friends do this at the time one of us gets married. We ask the husband to choose the game we play, and he gets the benefit. So tonight you choose the game".
The other girls handed him a deck of cards and asked him to choose one. He thought, shuffled it several times and then picked one from the middle of the deck. He displayed it to the Ary, "Hide and seek", it read.
Audrey was tensed and visibly worried. Her
eyes displayed fear. She called the other women in a corner and whispered, "We can't play this"
The others answered, "It's the rules Audrey, he chose it."
"We can't risk his life. I love him too much to take this risk". Audrey tried to convince them.
"I bet he doesn't even know how its played, he doesn't know what we are, and it stays that way, promise me Audrey" Rosie spoke.
"But-but he..."
"Audrey you'll kill all of your coven to save some man you just married today?" Josie taunted.
"I.."
"You would betray your friends?" Miley looked at her with rage.
"I would never"
"Then he'll have to play" Sylvie concluded.
They dragged Audrey out of the corner and upto Callan, "Is something wrong dear?" He asked, noticing the tense expression on Audrey's face. The others looked at her with rage, she was forced to say, "No-nothing honey"
"So, shall we play?" He inquired the others.
"Yes" the women said.
"So what do we....." he was cut off as he fell unconscious under the effect of chloroform. The game had begun.
