“Easton! Time to wake up!” I heard my mom yell up the stairs.
Little did she know, I was already awake and had been for about 3 hours now. I woke up early so I could continue working on my mom’s birthday present without her knowing. Her birthday was next week and I wanted to make her something special. It was a sword with my mom’s, my dad’s, and my name engraved on it. It has taken me over a month to get to the point that I am at now, but it is almost complete. Just a few more days.
“Easton! You are going to be late!” I heard my mom yell up again.
I completely forgot it was Wednesday.
I looked at the clock on my wall.
8:12
I only had 18 minutes before my bus left!
I flug open my dresser drawers and threw out the first thing that was in each one onto my bed. An interesting choice of clothes, but I didn't have time to pick out a perfect outfit.
I threw on my clothes and ran downstairs to the kitchen.
“Ah, I see you’re finally up,” my mom said as she put a plate of eggs on the table for me.
“Yeah sorry about that,” I said as I sat down at the table.
My mom rolled her eyes and smiled. “Just make sure you aren't late,” she said as she handed me a fork.
I snatched the fork out of her hand and quickly began shoveling eggs into my mouth.
My mom started laughing and sat down next to me at the table. “Don't choke. You will definitely be late then.”
I looked up at her and smiled. She is such an amazing mom.
After I finished my eggs, I got up and put my plate and fork in the sink.
“Mom? Is there anything new about the virus that has been spreading?” I asked.
“No, not that I have heard of,” she replied.
“Ok..” I said as I grabbed my backpack off the floor by the front door.
I have been really worried about this virus lately. It has been making people go crazy. Something about the sickness going to your brain and corrupting you. A lot of people say it was made by the government to stop overpopulation, even though the government has denied it many times. I don't know what to think. All I know is that it has been something that kids at school have been joking about. If any kid fails a test, gets into a fight, or even makes a stupid mistake, they always say something like “Well it looks like I got the virus.” Usually other kids start laughing and don't think much of it. But whenever I hear it, it makes me nervous. No matter how much everyone denies it, it is eventually going to come here. It is going to make everyone, this small town in western Illinois, go crazy.
I put on my shoes and opened the door.
“Bye mom!” I yelled as I walked out of the door.
“Bye honey! Have a good day,” I heard her yell back.
I closed the door and started walking down the driveway.
Maybe this whole virus thing is fake? Maybe this is all just a dream? Maybe I’ll wake up and see that everything was just a bad dream.
