It had been two months since the night of the party. The night Stephanie witnessed Steve and Natasha kiss. She hadn't spoken to either of them. The only time she spoke to them was if they were on a mission.

Despite Steve's best attempt to apologize to Stephanie she wanted nothing to do with him. Nat also tried to apologize. The guilt consumed her because she was also in love with Steve.

When Nat found out Steve and Stephanie were dating it broke her heart. She felt like she missed her opportunity so when Steve kissed her, she took her chance. Of course, that chance cost her her best friend.

Steve avoided Natasha after the party. He knew he fucked up. He freaked out when he was dared to kiss the prettiest girl. Of course he wanted to kiss Stephanie because in his eyes she was the most beautiful girl in the whole fucking world. But was he ready for everyone, especially Tony, to find out they were dating? That's what caused him to kiss Nat.

What he didn't expect was for Nat to kiss him back. He thought he could just give her a quick peck on the lips. Instead Nat gripped his face and deepened it. Steve immediately pulled back but it was too late. Stephanie was hurt and ran off.

That night he had listened to her cry in her room as he sat outside her bedroom door. He silently cried along with her.

Steve found himself in the training brutally beating on the punching bag. He had to take his frustrations out. Once he busted the second bag he stepped back to catch his breath. He heard the door open but he didn't look up.

It wasn't until he was hanging the third punching bag that he heard someone clear their throat. He sighed and saw Nat standing next to him.

"What do you want?" He couldn't look at her. He was upset with her even though he initiated the kiss.

Nat sighed, "I just want to talk. You've been avoiding me."

"What's there to talk about? I made a mistake and it cost me the love of my life."

Nat groaned, "can you honestly tell me you felt nothing for me when you kissed me?"

Steve looked her in the eyes, "Yes. I can honestly tell you that the kiss meant nothing." He walked away and started to unwrap his hands. "What I don't understand is why you kissed me back when you knew Stephanie and I were dating."

Nat stayed silent for a moment before answering, "truth is Steve. I've been in love with you since Washington."

Steve was startled by her confession, "that's not true."

Nat nodded, "yes it is. It's always been you." She tentatively took a few steps towards him. When he didn't move she moved closer and cupped his face, "tell me you feel the same way." She brushed her nose against his. A small smile on her face.

Steve pushed her away, "I don't feel the same way. I love Stephanie. I've been in love with her from the moment she recruited me."

In that moment Stephanie walked in and saw Steve and Nat. She saw him push her away and confess his love for her. She stayed silent the entire time as Steve and Nat stared at one another.
