There's no decorating it,

Definitely no denying it.

There cannot be any hiding from it,

There won't be any escape from it.

You might think the degradation will stop,

But the truth is there's no end to this rot.

We've killed it since we ran it,

We'll die with our planet.

It won't be in generations.

Your children will be born into a world that has killed nations.

It will be us who burn.

It will be we who reap the horrors we have sown.

Everybody can smell it on the empty winds...

Black earth spreads, the planet becomes the dominant force.

Humans are born to corrupt, and chaos is the very essence of our core.

We aren't to be redeemed,

We aren't to be saved.

We are on a self inflicted, terrifying downward spiral,

We're going to hit the dark bottom soon, there is no survival.

It will be soon... can't you smell it?

It's plain in the news you switch off and hope you'll forget,

It screams at you from the fabricated sidewalk on which you step,

It weeps from the words of a book that you'll leave to someone else to heed.

There isn't a way out and we have to face what blooms from our planted seed.

An omnipotent god won't reach down from the stars,

With gallons of clean water to sooth our scars.

There's just the cold hard truth that we are all murdering ourselves.

Humanity has consumed and destroyed in all its realms,

Lying, loving, weeping...

We won't rally to save our skins and

We don't even know whether we want die or keep living.

And so we gouge our eyes out with a searing poker of denial,

Hoping that the darkness might show something less vile.

The only spines we have are the ones made of bone,

They will decay when our race is forced to atone.

If something consumes every resource it thrives on,

The fuel will run low and dry out.

The consumer starves and dies, balance comes along.

We've devoured endless food.

Have we run out and died out to a sustainable level yet?

Our planet will take its toll soon.

Open your eyes. What is going to happen is an inevitability.

Humanity never listened and we continued hoping for a cheat way out,

Relying on something we couldn't see to pick up our responsibility.

We hoped for a way out that to let us continue,

But we didn't take the one right in plain view.

We clearly just want to die.

Nothing else could ever have helped the planet for us.

We're past the point of no return, we've devoured our way too far,

There won't be a bailout, there won't be a rescue,

We're going to wither and die for what we have contributed to.

We've been here for a few seconds but we've reduced the Earth

To a few faltering pathetic heartbeats.

We were a dagger to the pulsing legacy of life's existence.

We've only got a second longer

We have pushed nature into subsistence.

Open your eyes and see the decay and plague that we have wrought

See what we are, madly destroying the last vestiges of logical thought.

We're dead already and now we're scurrying and screaming

On borrowed time that we don't even have.

You can't deny it, and your faith won't change a thing;

Humanity is a flame, we burn furiously and bright,

We don't heed any obstacle, we blaze and fight.

We don't know how to stop. We just can't.

We will keep burning it all until there's nothing left

And when we've failed our collective test,

We'll become the ash we were destined to be.

We've rocketed our way straight to a cataclysm.

We aren't afflicted with a malady,

We aren't susceptible to some virus,

We haven't succumbed to a disease;

We are the cancer.

We are the bacteria.

We are the virus and when there's nothing left to infect and kill we'll die.

There's almost nothing left.

Everything from our hot water

To our nuclear bombs drives yet another caustic nail

Into the heart of our home.

Death, decay, plague...

It's spreading, it's spreading...

Overpopulation is frowned upon but it should be anathema,

We can't turn away from the fact that we blitzed past sustainability so many years ago.

We're already dead, so let's say our touching human goodbyes,

We haven't aided in the recovery of the planet and now it's on us,

We ravenously devoured everything, until we were extinct,

Wish we'd stopped lying and accepted it; the world will be better, with all of us dead.
