What The Hair

I ran through the streets of Corona. I panted and ran to the castle, and into Rapunzel's room. I panted and sighed, nearly losing balance. "I'm so sorry princess, I-I slept in!" I said, bowing. "Azalea, it's ok, and you know what?" she asked and I looked up at her. "Cassandra is going to take me to a wizard," she said, lowering her voice. I smiled and eagerly said "May I come?". Rapunzel turned to Cassandra and she nodded. "Sure! Why not?" Rapunzel said with a smile. I laughed triumphantly and grinned. 'Why do you want to see a wizard?' one of the voices in my head, April asked.

'Shush your mouth,' I said to her.

'April's right, for once,'

'Hey!'

'Anyway, why do you want to see him?' Sapphire asked me. I felt my face go hot and I swatted at them in my head. 'Stop, stop, I'm just curious that's all' I hissed at them. 'Sapphire, April, leave her alone! I get why she's curious, visiting a wizard sounds cool!' Kelpie snapped at them. I smiled and nodded. I walked into my room in the castle. I sat down in my bed. I groaned and after a few minutes Rapunzel knocked on the door. She opened it and said "We're leaving, you coming?" I nodded and got up. We walked outside and mounted our horses. I pet mine and we took off. As we stopped our horses. April started singing in my head, and it was distracting me. I slid off my horse. We walked to the Wizard's house. I shivered as Rapunzel said, "So, this is where Varian lives. It seems cozy, in an 'I wish I had said goodbye to my loved ones before I left' kind of way.". I smiled at Varian's name, then shook my head. 'What am I doing?! I-I haven't even met him yet!' I growled inside my head. 'You like him, that's why' Chaos laughed. I glared at her in my head then sighed, calming myself down as the door swung open. "Okay..." I said, confused. We stepped inside and Cass said, "Just watch your step, Raps. Come on, this way!" I sighed and I followed them. I stepped inside a room filled with purple fog just as Raps said, "It's just fog. I'm sure it's okay.". I heard a match striking and looked to see Cass had set off a booby trap. I jumped out of the way just in time. A ball flew through the air and landed at Raps' and Cass' feet, trapping them.

Raps tried to lift her leg but failed.

"Fine! A booby trap!"

"Raps, everything's gonna be- oh!"

Cassandra gasped as a large figure stepped out from the fog. "What. Do. You. Want?" He said in a distorted voice. I winced and looked at him. "Um hi. So sorry to bother you, sir. I wanted to ask you about my hair. Because you're such a magic exp-" Rapunzel started to say before Varian cut her off "Magic?! I do not work with magic!" he takes off his mask, revealing a teenage boy, his voice becoming normal again "I mean, technically, it's not magic. It's alchemy, but yeah don't don't sweat it." he said. Rapunzel clicked her tongue and I smiled. Rapunzel laughed nervously and said "Got it. So, what is this?". Varian looked surprised then smiled, I blushed unknowingly. "Oh, it's-it's a chemical compound of my own design. Thank you. See, we have a bit of a critter problem out here, and, through the miracle of modern alchemy, I have found a humane way to solve the problem." he said, releasing a racoon from the trap and throwing it into a room. "This is riveting, but could you get us out of here?" Cassandra growled at him. I rolled my eyes as Varian started patting his sides "Ha! Where is that neutralizing parti- Oh! C-Come get outta here" he said as the raccoon tried to sneak back in. I snickered. I saw Varian glance at me, smile, then release Raps and Cass. I tilted my head slightly before shrugging it off. Varian laughs and says "I am so sorry, Your Highness." Rapunzel looked taken aback. "'Your Highness'? Wait. You know who I am?" she says, surprised. I sighed, facepalming. "Uh, how could I not?" he laughs "Look at your hair! Ha! Your highness." He cleared his throat nervously. I smiled softly at him. "Oh, please. Just Rapunzel." Raps said. Varian smiled "Wow. Really? Okay. So, fantastical stories of your hair returning have spread throughout Corona. Yeah, people say it's magic, but personally, I don't really believe that. Now, as you have probably guessed, I am a man of science, - specifically, al-" he said but was cut off by Cass. "Alchemy. We know. Now listen, kid. We need your help, but let me make something clear. What happens here stays here, you got it?" she says, picking him up by the collar of his jacket. I facepalmed as Raps laid down on a table, and Varian examined her hair. "Oh, yes, this-this. Ah, it's very. long. Oh, no, don't worry, Your High-.....Rapunzel. I am sure that I, Varian, can unlock the mystery of your hair with the power of science!" he said, accidentally hitting his magnifying glass. It spun and hit him hard in the back of the head. He touched the back of his head and held out his hand. "No sweat, it's just a little-" he cut off and started babbling something as he passed out. I caught him and slowly lowered him to the ground.
