Dangerous Love, Lovelies, we are excited to share we had another chat with our favourites author E.L. Lewis about her writing secrets, authors who were an inspiration, and a few tips for the writers who are just now stepping into the writer's land.

When did you first start writing? Were you confident in what you were doing?

I first started writing when I was in high school. I took a creative writing class and instantly fell in love. But it wasn't until the pandemic that I had the time or freedom to write as a hobby. I found a very rough draft of a novel I had started writing probably when I was 17 so I thought why not continue? Once I had a few chapters written, I wanted to find somewhere I could share my work... enter Wattpad!

I've read romance books my whole life so I knew the general outline of a kissing book, but I definitely had no idea what I was doing. I did a ton of research on story structure and character development. Once I started posting on Wattpad, I made friends with fellow writers and readers who definitely helped shape me into a better writer.

Who are your favourite authors? Did any of them inspire or shape your writing?

Some of my favourite authors are Jodi Picoult, K.A. Tucker, and Liane Moriarty. I wouldn't say that my writing style is similar to these incredible storytellers but I've definitely used their work as guideposts before I found my own voice.

Is writing something you want to do full-time or rather a hobby? What's your dream job?

I would love to one day be a full-time writer. Slowly but surely, I think I'll get there. Manifest, right?!

The Dangerous Love team definitely keeps their fingers crossed for you!

Do you ever experience writer's block? How do you overcome it?

My answer to this question is always the same: I cry (LOL)

In all honestly, I don't have a quick fix solution. Usually, I'm on deadlines, whether self-imposed or by another party, so I just force myself to write. I sit on my couch, put on my writing playlist (mostly just coffee house instrumental), stash my phone away, and write.

I also take plot naps (one day I'll trademark this saying LOL). A plot nap is like a normal nap but instead of sleeping, I run through the next scene or chapter of my novel and play out all the possible scenarios and dialogue until I wake up with a HUZZAH moment.

What did you do to improve your writing style? How was it at the beginning and how do you see it now?

I think my writing style varies between genres. When I'm writing a rom-com or a lighter chicklit-ish novel, I find that my writing is way different than when I write dark romance. With dark romance, I definitely have more inner monologues versus dialogue. As I learn and grow as an author, I think my style will continue to change.

Do you have any advice to give to someone that just started writing?

Don't be scared! If you have a story to tell, write it! There are a bunch of resources on the internet that can help writers just starting out so don't be worried that you don't know what you're doing. I still have no idea. Writing should be fun, so put aside any fears and tell your story! No one else will do it
