But serial killers don't feel, Vetri felt with every fibre of his being.
Ratnavel saw that when he talked about the innocent little girl. He was a killer who killed for a cause, necessary evil. Ratnavel knew that Vetri wasn't innocent but by no means was he a criminal.
He termed Vetri off as a Robin Hood who cut off all ties and lived and died for the society.
Which was why it was surprising when he learned about Maaran.
The whole society believed that Vetri was a Robin Hood who used Maaran to get what he wanted.
But the society wasn't Ratnavel and it wasn't seeing what he currently was seeing,
"For the nth time, avanga olunga dhaan pottaanga, nee 1 hour ku oru vaati check panna venaam."
(They've done their job well, you don't have to check it every hour.)
"Okay, firstly, naan 1 hour ku oru vaati laam check pannala... Appo appo check panren and secondly, overnight la stitches tear panravanlaam pesave koodadhu..."
( Firstly, I haven't been checking it hourly, only once in a while and secondly, you dont even have the right to talk as the one who tore open the stitches overnight!)
"It was an accident!!!!"
"Famous last words!!!"
Dear god, these both were worse than a bunch of 5 year olds. En veetla irukkura gumbal vida mosaama irukeenga... Ratnavel would have almost believed them if they told him they were both identical twins who were raised together.
(They are worse than the ones in my house)
He almost laughed when Maaran tried the 'I don't care about him, he is just a criminal and I only feel responsible for him cause he wars my face' facade. He was literally there with him in the ambulance.
Ratnavel knew that Vetri looked up to Maaran, he was the literal epitome of a doctor and a human being to him. The whole world knew that the first time he was interrogated.
But Ratnavel was literally there when he was talking about it. So, he knew that what Vetri had towards Maaran wasn't just admiration it was loyalty. A large part of the loyalty came because Maaran was Vetri's big brother and Vetri loved his big brother.
What Ratnavel wasn't expecting and found absolutely bizzare was that Maaran reciprocated that love. He still remembers when Maaran looked him in the eye and told,
"I could have saved him from you if I wanted to. But I let him get captured because I thought he would be safer here. If he isn't, there will be hell to pay."
Ratnavel chuckled and looked at the identical brothers. Vetri was wearing a white shirt, sitting on the examination bed and looking annoyed. Maaran was standing above him and checking the head wound.
"Ippo nee poradhu Jail.... So, behave."
(You are going to jail now)
"I'm literally a prisoner."
"Be a good prisoner."
