Chapter 4- Believing & Betrayal

"You seem to know something about this?" he asked her, his voice stern and demanding.

"Yes, yes, Master," Vera replied, her voice trembling with fear. The nanny was hiding something, and Diego wanted to get to the bottom of it.

"That... ah" she said, her words trailing off abruptly. She was hesitant to speak the truth, but Diego pressured her to do so.

"Well, what is it?" he asked her, his eyes piercing her soul.

"I made that hole," Lorenzo says, drawing Diego's attention.

Diego's face hardens at the words, and his expression becomes dark and troubled. He cannot believe that Lorenzo would do something so malicious and dangerous.

Aria speaks up, her expression terrified and her eyes filled with tears. "Cough, cough! Brother, I asked you to open the door, but why...cough!" She can't speak properly, and she's choking due to her coughing fit.

"Did the young lord do this to the lady?"  maid started murmuring

Slap!

For the first time in his life, Diego slapped his son Lorenzo on the cheek, his anger and frustrations spilling over.

"Are you out of your mind Lorenzo?" he said, his voice filled with outrage and shock.

"What is this unreasonable happening to your sister!?" he continued, his tone hard and sharp.

"F-Father" Lorenzo said, shaken up by his father's reaction. The slap had taken him by complete surprise, and he couldn't believe his father had done that to him.

""You set the mansion on fire!? Vera, how the hell did you manage Lorenzo?!" Diego yelled in disbelief.

"It's all my fault, My Lord. Punish me instead of the young Lord...heuk!" said Vera, kneeling and pleading with Diego.

Aria watched the scene, shivering, although a small smile played on her lips as she watched Vera beg for mercy. It was a strange sight to see, and it was somewhat amusing to watch Vera grovel and plead with Diego.

Lorenzo grabbed the cheek that had been slapped, making a blank expression. He shouted with anger, his face filled with rage and disbelief.

"I didn't do it!" he shouted, his tone hard and aggressive.

He was more angry that Diego was supporting the daughter of a "bug-like low-class aristocrat."

"And what's wrong with that anyway? She's inferior!" he protested, his words harsh and disrespectful.

"Watch your words!" Diego yelled back at his son, his tone no longer gentle and loving but harsh and firm.

Diego felt emotionally sympathetic towards his son's words, but he knew it was dangerous to say it out loud.

Lorenzo changed his direction of anger to Aria, glaring at her threateningly. "Hey! You say it. Did I set the fire? I'll kill you if you lie!"

Aria looked back at Lorenzo, her eyes cold and fearless. She had changed, and she no longer seemed like a weak and passive child. She was now like a snake prepared to strike, ready to bite their heads off if they made a wrong move.

Gulp.

Lorenzo's mouth became dry with tense anticipation as he stared at Aria.

It was unbelievable, like the feeling of fear and dread he had felt when first meeting the Emperor.

It was worse than that, though.

She looked like a girl who could kill you with just a single flip of her hand, and she had changed a lot. She was no longer the weak and passive child that he once knew.

He had never seen Aria like this before, and it was a very strange sight to behold!

"Why do you hate me?"

"Your inferior status has caused my family's social status to drop. If it wasn't for you, then I would've never been Always humiliated in front of Sophia...!"

Lorenzo was deeply in love with Princess Sophia since childhood. However, when he was with her, his friend had humiliated him in front of Sophia, mentioning Aria and Aria's inferior birthright.

That had made Lorenzo resent Aria, and he blamed her for ruining his chances with Princess Sophia.

In the beginning, Lorenzo already disliked her because of her origin. But after that incident, he began to torment her even more.

"Brother, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry...Because of my status, you were humiliated in front of Princess Leisel...I just..."

Aria was apologizing, her tone sincere and filled with guilt.

"Shut up and Stop calling me Brother, you Stupid!!" Lorenzo yelled at her, pushing her away forcefully.

He had intended to make a light shove, but his anger got the best of him, and he couldn't control his strength. He was taking his anger on Aria, and she couldn't stop him from using excessive force against her.

POK!

"Ah!" Aria lost her balance and stumbled after being pushed harshly by Lorenzo, her body slipping backwards.

However, they were on the second floor and she was dangerously close to the stairs.

Lorenzo watched as Aria's body tilted dangerously backwards and she was about to tumble down the stairs

"Hey you!"

His hand quickly reached out for Aria

"Brother"

Aria also reflexively reached out towards Lorenzo

'I knew it brother will save me'

Fortunately, their hands touched each other.

But the next moment......

Aria hand that momentarily touched Lorenzo's had slipped out of his loosened grip.

Her body continued to tilt backwards once again.

Aria's eyes opened wide.

Her hand that touched loreanzo felt cold.

Lorenzo hand, which gripped Aria's moments ago, was frozen in the air.

He was nailed to his spot as he stared at the falling and smirk at Aria. Aria with stiff eyes. 

'Why my brother is Smiling why. I'm....?'

Aria thought blankly why she's falling

Is it because it happened in an instant?

Or is it because she didn't fully understand the situation until now?

Or......

Is it because she believed lorenzo would help her?

POKKK!

Aria's field of vision was suddenly filled with red, splattered with her blood.

She landed on the floor headfirst, her body wracked with pain and agony as if every bone in her body had broken. She was unable to release a sound, her throat unable to emit even a small scream.

Aria lay on the ground floor, broken and lifeless, betrayed in the end by the very brother she had trusted to save her.

Those were the last moments that Aria could remember in her first life.
