Professor Mason-

Maddie's pov

"Toby! Stop that, you'll scare the professors!" I laughed. Toby, my son who was murdered the day of the Battle of Hogwarts-his first birthday, just loved to play jokes on all the professors here at Hogwarts. Yes, that's right, Hogwarts. A year after our death, we asked McGonagall- who was very surprised to see us as ghosts- to live at Hogwarts. She happily said yes, but she was very sad that I had died.

Anyway, the same year following the Battle, none other than Hermione and Ginny returned to Hogwarts for their final year. They never found out that my son and I lived here, but it blessed my heart to see them. When they left, I applied for a job as a professor. McGonangall was skeptical, but when I pointed out that Professor Binns worked here, she took me in. I'm the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, and it was so cute to see all the first years when they see me in my ghostly form.

"But mum! It's so funny!" Toby laughed. Had Toby been alive, he would have been 11 years old and on his way to Hogwarts. In the form he was in right now, he is eleven, and each year he changes his age to match up with his real one.

"Toby James." I said sternly. His eyes widened with fright but I laughed. "But come on, it's time to get back to your lesson." He nodded and pulled his wand from his robes. "I want you to repeat after me. Lumos."

"Lumos." He squeaked. His wand lit up and I smiled proudly. "I did it!" He shouted.

"Ok, well since that was easier than I thought, you want to go for a walk?" He nodded excitedly. He tuck his wand back into his robes and stood by me. I looked down at my boy and felt.. sad. His hair was long, covering his forehead and ears. It was a gray color, seeing as ghosts aren't very colorful. He wore a light gray jumper and pants. He had an almost dark gray robe. He shouldn't have died.

"Hold on." I said excitedly. He grabbed my hand and I jumped. It was amazing, like flying. I took him to the black lake, where he happily threw rocks into the lake. "Be careful, or the Squid will get you!" I teased. I walked over to the lake shore and looked into it. My ghostly reflection stared back at me. My hair was long, going to my mid-back, and hung in loose curls. I myself wore the floral sundress I was actually wearing the day I died.. On top of that was my Gryffindor robe.

"MUM! The train arrived!" Toby said happily. I looked into the distance and saw smoke rising in the air. "Can we go back to the castle?" I nodded and we jumped. Above the entrance of the Great Hall, there is a small balcony where Toby likes to sit during the feasts. I usually sit there with him because it's not comfortable to be the only ghost sitting at the Head table, especially if you don't eat.

"What house do you think will get the most students?" I asked Toby excitedly.

"I hope it's Gryffindor. If I were alive, I would want to be in Gryffindor!" He said, raising his hands excitedly.

"Well mummy and daddy were Gryffindors, so I'm sure you would be too!" I assured him. He smiled excitedly as we heard the professors walking in and taking there seats. Not long after, students from all the houses were seated. Professor Longbottom, who was hired last year and still doesn't even know of my existence, escorted first years down the Great Hall.

"When I call your name, you will come forth, and I shall place the sorting hat on your head and you will be sorted into your houses." Neville said happily. The group of first years around him whispered to each other.

"Mikaela Johnson!....Hufflepuff!"

"Athena Willow! ..... Ravenclaw!"

"Austin Borich!... Gryffindor!" Least to say, the sorting was absolutely dreadful. Many of the first years were sorted into Hufflepuff. Slytherin followed closely behind Ravenclaw, and a fair few into Gryffindor.
