I keep mustering strength in me to take one step, then another, then another and only stop when I am standing right in front of him. He continues to look at me with that overpowering stormy look in his eyes, the blue in his unreal orbs fighting with the green, which had turned a notch darker as he refuses to look at anything else but at me.
My breath hitches as he steps closer, his delicious smell of pinecone, just a hint of cigarettes and a distinct manly cologne that he always seems to wear infiltrates my system.
I look at him all over and can't help but think if midnight were a man, it would be as sexy and daunting as the force who stood in front of me right now, who also just happened to be my husband.
He leans in and places the softest of kisses on my lips, so so soft it felt like I could've missed it if I wasn't paying attention. Butterflies erupt in my stomach at the contact and it is all I can do to keep myself standing steady as he drags his lips from the corners of my mouth to the side of my face before whispering into my ear, in the most tantalizing of ways,
"You are breathtaking, Avery Knight."
My heart goes into overdrive, having not the slightest of ideas how I was to respond to that. Knowing me well enough, Hayden slowly steps back a comfortable distance, allowing me some air and I hadn't realized that I was holding my breath until the moment he gives me my personal space.
He looks at me softly as I am still out-of-sorts in a dreamy kind of daze as he extends his arm out to me, smiling preciously.
"Shall we?"
I barely manage to nod as I loop my arm into his and we walk together into his car.
As he opens the car door for me, I brace myself for a night that I tell myself I truly deserve, and smiling at his figure, as he makes his way towards his side of the car, I cannot believe my stars that they wove such a story for me where I am strung around a man who has me falling for him a little more, every time we meet.
***
I look out the car window, the city lights speeding past us and can't help but smile over the best evening of my life that I just had.
Hayden was charming and funny and just so perfect, it was almost unreal spending time with him when he was in such a carefree environment not weighed down by all the responsibilities he carries upon himself. It almost felt normal, just any other couple sitting, eating, spending time with each other, having the best time of our lives and as I look at him, driving silently, the faintest of smiles on his face and the moonlight gracing the side of his face, illuminating all of his best features making him look unreal, I can't help but smile at how our stars wove us together.
Its only when I look back out the window I realize we're not heading the way home, being far away from the city, speeding in a completely opposite direction; scrunching my eyebrows in confusion I look at Hayden.
"Where we going?"
He doesn't respond just winks in return.
"Hayden! tell mee." I ask as his smile just grows.
"Nowhere big or crowded or fancy so you don't have to worry about coming up with excuses to bail out." he says knowing me too well for my own liking.
He lifts his hand from the driving stick and holds my hand instead giving it a quick squeeze of reassurance. He's a man of few words so he does what he can to reassure me or to calm me down and his littlest gestures make a world of difference in my life. Butterflies flutter as his hand makes contact with mine and it leaves me wondering how his touch can bring me to edge and heighten all my senses and yet manage to relax and calm me down at the same time.
