            ANZAC DAY

                                   Dedicated to Ray

To my dearest Uncle Ray,

Although I live far away

And it's not easy to refrain

From thinking of war in Ukraine

Where daily blood is being shed

And bombs are striking people dead,

I still remember ANZAC DAY.

Therefore I really want to say,

" I send best wishes on their way

On sunshine from a golden ray

Gleaming on medals on display

Of which you have quite an array

And Phillip has no need to starch

Your navy shirt for the march.

Be assured on Veterans' Day

Your niece's thoughts

Still drift your way.

Relax, enjoy your hillside view

You deserve peace, you really do.

At ninety seven years of age

You earned your place

On the world's stage."

A/N It gives me so much pleasure to dedicate this heartfelt

poem to my uncle who lives a peaceful life with his son

on their alpaca farm in the township of St. Helen's, Tasmania.

My first memories of Ray were when I was a child staying with

my aunt while Ray was at sea. She and I would welcome

with open arms the handsome, young Australian sailor when he

arrived home for short periods on leave.
