Mikoto returned to her seat fuming silently. Her voice was sharp as she spoke to her eldest. "Go watch your brother."
Itachi nodded and practically sprinted back to his spot with Shisui. He'd never seen his mother so mad before. It scared Itachi shitless.
"Itachi, if shit like that goes down again. Please stay here." Shisui asked voice low. "That girl was scarier than the ninetails. I've never seen anybody talk to your mom the way she did."
"Way to go, Sakura!" Naruto beamed at her giving her a thumbs up. "You were really scary!"
"Oh was I?" Sakura rubbed at the back of her head. She looked to Sasuke. It was hard to read his expression. Sakura chewed on the inside of her cheek, had she gone too far? She decided to apologize.
"I'm sorry for being so hostile with your mother, Sasuke." Sakura sat back down. Okay, well she wasn't sorry about the threat exactly, more so if it had caused the Uchiha pain to see the two most important women in his life fight. "I know it was wrong. I should have been more respectful. I tried to stay that way, but...the way your protests were just being ignored...I couldn't just sit by and let-"
Sasuke kissed her. It was quick, so quick that Sakura almost thought she imagined it. It was just a simple peck on the lips, but it was a worthwhile award for her bravery all the same. Sasuke was looking at her with that look in his eyes. She knew that he was proud of her and thankful for her help. She smiled at him.
There wasn't an Uchiha more deserving of a good sock in the jaw than Fugaku. But ultimately she refrained from acting on the impulse. She had more control than Naruto would have. "It's like I told you. You can't see him."
"Damnit but I wanted to see you punch him..." Naruto sighed resting his head on Sakura's shoulder. "Why do you have to stay so composed?"
"Naruto." Sakura reprimanded him. "I can't just punch a patients father."
"But I wanted to see you hit him." Naruto whined a second time.
It was quiet between them for a moment as Sasuke spoke up. "...I did too."
"Permission from the patient doesn't make it okay either Sasuke." Sakura shook her head with a sigh. But the fond smile on her face betrayed her words. Because like her on screen self she also really wanted to punch Fugaku. Hell she'd wanted to punch Mikoto a moment ago. But alas she wouldn't be a very good medic ninja if she did.
"You have no right to keep me from my son." Fugaku glowered down at her. He wasn't asking. "Move aside."
"I refuse!" Sakura gripped the door frame. "The last thing that Sasuke needs right now is to see you. You can come back tomorrow during visiting hours. He needs his rest right now." Her eyes shifted to Minato. "The same goes for Naruto. What those boys need is time to recoup uninterrupted. Give that to them. You'll be informed if either your son's condition changes."
"That is one seriously brave girl." Asuma crossed his arms. He was impressed. There weren't many kuinochi who would stand up to a clan head like that or a hokage.
"You wouldn't catch me doing that back in the day." Kurenai shook her head.
"Yeah, she's got guts alright." Jiraiya agreed.
"Of course she does! What do you think I'd make just anyone my apprentice?" Tsunade scoffed folding her hands.
"I would expect nothing less from, Sakura." Lee smiled. "She is magnificent as always."
"That crush isn't ever going to go away is it?" Tenten shook her head.
"It's unlikely." Neji sighed in reply.
