Chapter 5:The Race Against Time

Narrator:welcome back to island of berk where a great misfortune will threaten the future of Berk
Karai:*gets off boat*ok if everyone is good here I’m gonna go check on Hiccup
Stoick:lass I’ll check on him ya need to get yer arm looked at
Karai:uncle Stoick please I’ll be fine*mumbles*not that I’m worried about me
Stoick:my village my rules go get yer arm taken care of
Karai:fine but I’m not gonna like it
Stoick:I didn’t say ya would*goes to his hut*(I know the technical name is longhouse)walks in*
Toothless:*jumps down protectively*[who dares-]
Stoick:easy there it’s only me*pets him once he calms down*how is he
Toothless:*put head down worried**roars lightly*[I don’t know]
Stoick:hmm we’ll let him sleep until Karai comes in*sighs*hope the lass didn’t get too hurt
Toothless:*puts his head against Stoick’s arm*
Stoick:thanks I’m sure she’s alright
Karai:*goes to Gothi*hello Gothi I was hoping you could help me with my arm
Gothi:motions to chair*begins treatings Karai’s wounds*
Karai:*winces*better me than her does burn a bit though
Gothi:*nods**draws[done](she speaks in dragonese)
Karai:thank you*walks to Stoick’s hut**walks in*
Toothless:*growls not realizing it’s Karai*
Karai:*jokingly*who you growling at
Toothless:[sorry I did realize it was you]
Karai:I was only kidding bud*pets him*
Stoick:we were waiting for ya to go check on him
Karai:well I’m here now*walks upstairs*Hiccup*sits on the bed*wake up please*feels forehead*your burning up
Stoick:*questioningly*he’s got a fever lass
Karai:yes*feels forehead again*I need to bring it down or it’ll get worse
Stoick:how do we do that
Karai:hmm*stay with him I’ll be back
Narrator:Karai gets a bowl turns a flame into water then begins looking for a cloth
Karai:none hmm*looks at sleeve*well it’s already torn*rips sleeve off*there*walks back upstairs*
Stoick:what’s in the bowl
Karai:water and some of my sleeve*begins wetting sleeve*hmm water is warm
Stoick:oh ya didn’t have to tear up yer sleeve to help
Karai:it was already ripped*turn water to ice**shivers*cold*gently melt ice*there*places sleeve in the water*
Stoick:I didn’t know ya could freeze things as well 
Karai:I can’t do it often it makes me*coughs*sick*put sleeve on Hiccup’s head*
Stoick:ya alright lass
Karai:yeah I’m fine
Hiccup:*wakes up slowly*mhm w-what happened
Karai:good morning
Hiccup:*sits up*I was asleep all night
Karai:*chuckles*no I was kidding
Toothless:*tackle hugs Hiccup knocking over Karai*[hi]
Karai:jeez ow*gets up*nice to see you too offspring of lightning and impatiens itself
Toothless:[sorry was excited]*licks Hiccup*
Hiccup:ok ok I missed you too bud*has coughing fit*
Karai:give him space to breath please bud*tries to soothe coughing fit*
Narrator:after he stops coughing Karai notices something in Hiccup’s shoulder
Karai:hey hold still for a second*pulls out dart*there’s still a little bit of whatever it was in here
Stoick:how does that help us
Karai:I’ll have donnie take a look at it and see what he can come up with
Hiccup:*leans on Karai’s shoulder*my head feels like it’s melting
Karai:that’s because you have a fever*lays him back down*rest I’ll get you some water
Narrator:Karai goes into the kitchen and grabs a cup then puts water in it then goes upstairs
Karai:here*sits him up*drink this*after he drinks she lays him back down*
Stoick:we should let him rest come on Toothless*they leave*
Narrator:Karai goes to leave but Hiccup grabs her hand
Karai:*sits next to his bed*what’s up you need something
Hiccup:can you stay just until I’m asleep
Karai:of course I’m right here if you need me
Narrator:after Hiccup is asleep Karai walks outside where Stoick is waiting for her
Stoick:what took so long lass
Karai:he wanted me to stay until he fell asleep
Stoick:so what do ya think is in the vial
Karai:*looks at the vial*if I had to guess I’d say some kind of poison or toxin
Sunburst:*lands near Karai*[look I can fly again]
Karai:that’s amazing but if you can fly again why do you stay
Sunburst:[to make sure you and the injured human were ok]
Karai:I’m fine*sadly*he’s most likely been poisoned
Sunburst:*puts her head to Karai’s head*[it will be ok]
Karai:I hope so*pets her**makes a pile of fish*here eat I’ll be back soon
Sunburst:[where are you going]
Karai:my father’s to have this examined*shows her dart*
Sunburst:[I see be careful]
Karai:I will*walks through portal behind Stoick’s hut*hey anyone home
Raph:*yells*Mikey you can’t just-
Karai:yep*picks up Raph and Mikey with telekinesis*enough what is going on*puts them down*
Both:*undecipherable rambling*
Karai:*whistles*one at a time Mikey you first
Mikey:I was playing with the girls and they wanted me to show them how our weapons work
Karai:did you leave a weapon near them
Mikey:no I had Donnie and Leo show them theirs but Raph was busy so-
Raph:that does mean you take my sai from my room
Karai:ah I see so your both at fault so both of you apologize I need to go see Donnie
Narrator:the boys apologize to each other while Karai goes to Donnie's lab
Karai:amore you here
Donnie:yes what’s up*kisses her forehead*
Karai:I need you to analyze this for me*hands him the dart*
Donnie:very primitive design where did it come from
Karai:Berk I need you to take a look at the liquid inside
Donnie:well just by looking at it I can say that it’s a slow acting poison
Karai:I knew it how slow and what’s the cure
Donnie:I need to figure out how to open it
Karai:can I try I used to do it for fun
Donnie:if you think you can
Karai:*takes out SFIT ID and uses it to open the back*done
Donnie:you know you scare me sometimes
Karai:thanks so how does the poison work 
Donnie:*puts it under a chemical scanner*it’s made from*confused*the venom of a dragon and a poison slowing plant
Karai:*scared/concerned*wait what dragon
Donnie:it looks like this*pulls up an illustration*
Karai:oh for Thor's sake no wonder he's sick that's one of the main signs
Donnie:well there is a cure for the venom
Karai:I know Angel fern,tree sap, and venom but with every additional chemical added the cure changes
Donnie:true try the original cure though getting the venom may be hard
Narrator:Karai sits down and turns her legs into a slitherwing tail
Karai:now do you have a vial for me to put the venom in
Donnie:*tosses her a plastic vial*yeah here
Karai:thanks*puts venom in the vial*there turns her legs back*ok now I have to get back to Berk
Donnie:hey*takes her hand*do you have a minute
Karai:*hold his*yes but I need to go
Donnie:you said he is sick who is he
Karai:Hiccup*puts her head in his chest*
Donnie:*wraps his arms around her*you ok
Karai:it's my fault I was right there and I did nothing
Donnie:I don't think that statement is true
Karai:but it is it's my fault he's hurt
Donnie:well why don't we go get the rest of the ingredients for the cure and you can tell me everything
Karai:ok we need something to carry the ingredients in
Donnie:*grabs empty satchel*will this work
Karai:yes it's perfect*takes it and puts it on*let's go
Narrator:Karai and Donnie go back through the portal and arrive at Berk
Sunburst:*walks up to her*[you're back]
Donnie:ahh*falls over*don't eat me please
Karai:get up she's not going to eat you*helps him up*
Donnie:*hides behind her*your sure
Karai:yes I'm sure she won't hurt you
Narrator:Donnie comes out from behind Karai and carefully pets Sunburst as he becomes more comfortable he pets sweetly
Karai:see I told you she won't hurt you
Donnie:hi I'm Donnie
Karai:I call her Sunburst
Narrator:a terrible terror lands next to Karai
Karai:*bends down and picks it up*hello
T.T:hello I bring you a letter and a map
Karai:untied the papers from it's leg*thank you
Donnie:*tilts his head*what is it
Karai:it's a note and a map from Viggo Grimborn
T.T:*begins to shake*[he's mean I don't want to go back]
Karai:then stay here*takes the armor off him*
T.T:[ok thank you thank you thank you]
Karai:you welcome so what's your name
Quil:a dark haired girl used to call me Quil
Karai:ok Quil my name's Karai you can stay here
Quil:[oh thank you Karai]*nuzzles her hand*
Karai:*pets him then puts him down*glad to have you on Berk
Quil:[thank you]*flies away*
Donnie:so what's the paper say
Karai:oh right*opens it*it's for me
Donnie:how do you know
Karai:because Astrid is blonde and uses an ax and it's addressed to the dark haired sword wielder
Donnie:ah I see so then what does it say after that
The Note:To the dark haired girl I would like to meet with you formally in person as you may have already found the rider of the night fury, whatever your relationship to him maybe, has been poisoned and so if you are wise you will accept my invitation alone if you want the cure
Karai:*growls*that no good dragon hunting maniac*yells in frustration*
Donnie:you know you can't go alone
Karai:what choice do I have he has the cure
Donnie:are you crazy going alone is suicide
Karai:I'll ask Uncle Stoick he'll know what to do
Narrator:Karai walks into Stoick's hut to find only Hiccup she checks on him then goes to the great hall where a concerned Stoick sits in front of a bowl stirring the soup within
Karai:uncle Stoick*sits across from him*hey anyone home
Stoick:*snaps out of his thoughts*aye sorry lass I was just lost in the Battlefields of my head
Karai:it's ok*sets her hand on his wrists*I understand
Stoick:anyway what can I help ya with
Karai:Viggo Grimborn does that name mean anything to you
Stoick:yeah he's the one Alvin was workin' for
Karai:who-never mind doesn't matter he's the one who poisoned Hiccup
Stoick:I should tear 'im limb from limb
Karai:you can't he want me to meet with him
Stoick:I got my axe and I got my shield let's go
Karai:uncle you can't come he wants me alone
Stoick:ya can't do that he'll kill ya
Karai:uncle I-we don't have a choice it's me or the heir of Berk make your choice
Stoick:*sighs*fine but ya better be careful
Karai:I will I promise and don't worry I won't let him down*goes to leave*
Stoick:lass wait one last thing
Karai:yes uncle what is it
Stoick:remember I love ya Karai
Karai:I love you too uncle Stoick
Narrator:Karai walks back to Sunburst and Donnie
Donnie:what did he say
Karai:he agrees with both of us it's a long shot but it's our only shot
Donnie:just be careful I don't want you getting hurt
Karai:I'm a Viking it's an occupational hazard
Donnie:really*rolls his eyes*Karai I'm being serious
Karai:I know I was only trying to make you laugh stay here and take care of Hiccup
Donnie:I will please try to be safe
Karai:*kisses him then gets on Sunburst*I will
Narrator:Karai flies to the island on the map then lands
Sunburst:*growls*[poisonous flowers]
Karai:only to dragons and he sits in the middle
Sunburst:[do you have a plan]
KaraI:stay here if there's trouble*writes on a piece of paper*take this back to Berk
Narrator:(the note said help)Karai put the note and map in a capsule and tied it to Sunburst's front right leg then walked to Viggo
Karai:I received your message and I'm here
Viggo:ah yes but not alone you brought the dragon
Karai:her flying me was the fastest way to get here so you wanna talk let’s talk
Viggo:please sit and we can talk and please keep the weapon away I’d like to do this peacefully
Karai:if I sit you can attack me faster
Viggo:true but wouldn’t that mean I would have to get up to allowing you to counter
Karai:while factually correct you sit in a field of flowers poisonous to dragons and still you say that you wish to talk peacefully
Viggo:it's merely an insurance policy please sit
Karai:*in head*I'm running out of time*out loud**sighs*fine*sits down*alright fine let's talk
Viggo:see now how hard was that well let us begin won’t you tell me your name
Karai:I am Karai Hamato niece of Stoick the vast and cousin to the heir of Berk Hiccup Horrendous Haddock Ⅲ
Viggo:oh a formal introduction well then I must not disappoint I am Viggo Grimborn leader of the dragon hunters
Karai:enough with the formalities you poisoned my cousin you have the cure what will it take for you to give it to me
Viggo:*moves his Maces and Talons piece*want to try
Karai:if I win do I get the cure
Viggo:*chuckles*cute but no I want something else
Karai:then what do you ask for
Viggo:you see when I took your weapon from you I began to examine it and realized something
Karai:that the symbol on it was unheard of to you
Viggo:yes*pauses*and no the steel of it isn’t steel it’s flame turned to metal how did you come by it
Karai:it was given to me by the goddess of fire for protecting her isle of dragons
Viggo:I see knowing that it is your price
Karai:his life for a sword
Viggo:that is my deal will you agree
Karai:*hands him the sword*take it
Viggo:smart girl and your scabbard is man made
Karai:yes but I don't understand you said the sword for the cure I gave you what you want
Viggo:I want the scabbard that holds it as well
Karai:*hesitates*fine take it
Narrator:Karai unties her scabbard from her side and throws it to Viggo
Karai:you have what you want now hold up your end of the deal
Viggo:I am a man of my word*throws her the vial the cure is in*
Narrator:Karai gets on Sunburst and flies off
Karai:come girl we need to hurry
Sunburst:[hold on]*fles faster*[we’ll get there in time don’t worry]
Narrator they land on Berk and Karai gets the cure ready for Hiccup then goes upstairs
Karai:*gently shakes his shoulder*hey I’m back wake up please
Hiccup:Karai*sits up and begins coughing*
Karai:relax relax calm down calm down*attempts to calm his coughing fit*easy you ok
Hiccup:my head’s melting again
Karai:I got the cure here*hands him cup*drink it you’ll feel better
Narrator:Hiccup slowly drinks the cure once he is done he is able to stand and gives Toothless and Karai a hug
Hiccup:wait where is your sword
Karai:*sadly*I had to give it and my scabbard to Viggo for the cure*relieved*but at least you're ok
Hiccup:but the value of the sword and the scabbard really meant a lot to you
Karai:*puts her hands on his shoulders*yes but you matter so much more to me*hugs him*
Hiccup:*hugs her back*I'm still sorry you had to lose them
Karai:I can always get another Sword but I only get one of you*lets go*and I won't let you go
Hiccup:*lets go* but you just did*laughs*
Karai:*scoffs*it was a figure of speech smart guy
Hiccup:so where are Sunburst and my dad
Karai:Sunburst said she was going for a fly and your father is-
Stoick:son yer alright*picks him up and hugs him*thank you lass for helping him and getting him here
Karai:of course beside we can’t trust him to keep himself out of trouble
Stoick:that’s the truth*sets Hiccup down*and Thor knows it
Hiccup:I feel attacked
Karai:no just teased*ruffles his hair and walks down stairs*wonder when Sunburst is coming back
Narrator:meanwhile on Viggo’s ship Sunburst is looking for Karai’s sword and scabbard
Viggo:looking for something dragon
Sunburst:*growls*[give me her weapon and it’s holder]
Viggo:I don’t speak dragon but I think I know what you want*hold Karai’s sword*
Narrator:Viggo and Sunburst begin to fight for the sword Sunburst”s leg is burnt but she retrieves the sword and flies away then returns to Berk
Karai:Sunburst you back
Sunburst:*lands and sets down the sword and the scabbard*[I brought you a gift]
Karai:how in Thor’s name did you-I thought Viggo had them
Sunburst:[he did I fought him to get them back]*looks at her*[did it make you happy]
Karai:*smiles while tying her scabbard back to her side*yes thank you*hugs her*
Sunburst:*winces*[ah my leg still hurts]
Karai:let me see*looks at the injury*hmm oh your fire just hit you on the way back
Sunburst:why do you sound relieved*winces*
Karai:because I can fix it*absorbs the burn*there all done
Sunburst[wow thank you]
Karai:you have my back and I’ll have yours now wanna fly
Narrator:Sunburst and Karai fly around Berk racing with Toothless and Hiccup for the rest of the day
