I laughed, "oh I'm sure you did. Now you tell those guys to back off. You're mine."

"I dunno Olivia, they seemed keen."

I made a face and laughed again, "stop it." I said.

"I'm just telling the truth." He was laughing too now.

"I'm sure you are."

The snow stayed for two weeks. I hadn't seen snow like that in years. Snow men and snow angels seemed to pop up everywhere you looked and my friends and I were responsible for a good number of them.

A few days before Christmas, the day before my dad was due to arrive from England, I was walking through the park with my group of friends.

"There's Sean!" Eve said pointing over to a group of boys at the other side of the park. Sean was a boy she had a huge crush on but he didn't seem to notice or care too much if he did.

"Oh look, Ethan's there with him, let's go say hi!" She said to me with a pleading look in her eye.

I didn't want to say no, but I knew nothing good would come of her embarrassing herself in front of Sean.

"I hang out with Ethan enough in England, can't we stay away from him?" I asked.

"Please!" She took one of my hands in both of hers and put on her best puppy dog eyes.

"Oh alright." I really couldn't say no.

"Thankyou!" She hugged me and we started making our way over towards the group of boys.

I found myself walking at the back of the group with a quiet girl I liked called Grace.

"So you hang out with Ethan a lot?"

"Yeah, we have all the same friends."

"Lads?"

"The girls are funny over there." I had told the story of Michelle before, Grace must have missed it, I didn't want to get into it again.

"So you've got your boyfriend?" She asked.

"Joe."

"And is he mates with Ethan too?"

"Umm yeah. I mean Ethan can be a bit funny sometimes you knowing playing protective brother but we're all friends."

"So who would be your best friend? And it can't be Ethan or Joe!" I don't know why she was interested in this but I thought about it.

"Probably Aaron."

"Who's that."

"Joe's best friend."

Grace turned to me, "Olivia! What are you going to do when you and Joe break up! All the boys will pick him, that's just what boys are like and they've known him longer. You need girl friends!"

I didn't like that she said when we break up, why did we have to break up? I knew she was only looking out for me but it wasn't that simple.

"Look it's not that easy. All the girls hate me over there. And Joe and me are good, you don't need to worry about us breaking up!"

"You're good now! But you're both young, things could change!"

I didn't know why she was pushing this and was about to ask her when we got to the group of boys with my brother. Eve ran down to me grabbed my hand and dragged me to the front of the group.

"Hi Ethan!" I called out.

He gave me a questioning look as if asking why we were here but replied back.

We then settled in chatting with the boys much to Eve's delight. I was quiet the whole evening thinking about what Grace had said.

When I got home my mood only got worse when I realised Joe had gone to his grandparents house for Christmas and I wouldn't hear from him for a week.

I went to bed early and got up late.

I hung around the house all day.

In the evening we went down to the docks to meet my dad. I grew in excitement the closer we got. I hadn't seen him in so long and I missed him.

"Daddy!" I shouted when I saw him running straight into his arms.

You don't realise how much you missed someone until you are with them again.

The days over Christmas were a busy frenzy of food, gifts and visitors. By the end of it I was exhausted.

After Christmas we went and spent a week with my dads family in the country. I loved my dads family but there were far too many of them. My dad was one of 9 children and many of his brothers and sisters had up to 10 children. This meant there was always something going on and someone to talk to but it was a lot. I did love the country air and the wide expansive fields that looked like they'd go on forever.

When we got back to Belfast it was the new year. We only had 3 days left until we would be going back to Birmingham. I was excited to be going back but I would miss my friends and family here.

"Joe called for you last night, I think he got his dates wrong." Granny told me when we got back to her house. I hadn't spoken to Joe in almost two weeks now. I missed him so much.

"Did he say he'd call back?"

I must have asked too eagerly because my granny laughed, "yes dear."

When the phone went that evening I ran to it.

"Hello?"

"Hello Olivia!" My uncles voice answered, "you couldn't put your granny on the phone could you?"

"Sure." I sighed.

I watched with little patience as my granny chatted on the phone. When she finally put the phone down it rang again very soon after.

This time it was Joe on the other side when I picked it up.

"Joe!" I sighed into the phone, "I've missed you so much!"

"I've missed you too. Tell me about your Christmas."

I told him all about my busy Christmas and the gifts that Ethan and I had gotten. I then listened as he told me about his Christmas. It was a lot quieter than mine. Just his family and his grandparents.

"You'll be back soon."

"I can't wait to see you."
