Semifinal Pairings

And here we are, with the results of the draw for the semifinal pairing. Four authors made their picks and we used a little bit of math to sort out who's going to cross swords with whom in the semifinals.

You want to know how?

Um.

We offered the following options (more or less):

🐱  or 🐧

🚂 or 🦾

🍫 or 🧀

🌕 or 🪐

🍎 or 🍑

Me too, we added the results in the following anonymous table —

— and appointed scores based on the frequency of an option being picked:

ओह! यह छवि हमारे सामग्री दिशानिर्देशों का पालन नहीं करती है। प्रकाशन जारी रखने के लिए, कृपया इसे हटा दें या कोई भिन्न छवि अपलोड करें।

— and appointed scores based on the frequency of an option being picked:

⚡️All candidates pick the same option: 0 points

⚡️Three candidates pick the same option: 1 point each for the three, 4 points for the outlier

⚡️Two candidates pick one option, two the other: 2 points for everyone.

And this leads us to the following pairings, if we follow the rule of the contestant with the least points fighting the one with the most:

Pairing 1: Contestant 1 (6 pts) : Contestant 3 (12 pts)

Pairing 2: Contestant 2 (9 pts) : Contestant 4 (9 pts)

Only now we added the names of the contestants into the mix again and these are the pairings spelled out:

potatoturnipbean vs. theidiotmachine

wdhenning vs. RJGlynn

Everything clear? Too complicated, and drawing straws would have been easier? Sure, but easy is not fun. Besides, Scotty hasn't finished repairing the transporter yet, so, bringing you up to the mothership for the draw wasn't an option.

Well, good luck to everyone preparing mentally for the next round. Keep your eyes peeled for the prompts!
