A pantser - who writes their stories "by the seat of their pants."

Or more like someone who doesn’t plan before writing. Many budding writers find it hard to plan beforehand. It’s more of a situation where they don’t know how to start the story nor how they will take it forward. It’s more of “what to do?“ than “I love writing spontaneously”

Before we begin anything we need to understand the importance of planning.

Planning gives you a sense of power to your story, it will also help you beat writer's block when you don’t know how to move forward. Though for most people it's a hideous task moving forward it will help you more or less.

So if it has such good benefits, Why don’t some writers plan beforehand?
Many stuff in this world has advantages and disadvantages. Just like that planning has disadvantages too! It’s time-consuming and you have to do all of the brainstormings before you start writing.

Then Why is planning preferred? To be honest, Planning makes your writing easier. Example- The Nanorimo contest works in the month of November and all of the planning for the book is done in October itself, this guarantees you to finish the book in the span of two months.

That said- How do we start planning? To make it simpler for you guys, let's divide planning into three parts!

-Plotting
-Character Designing
-Writing Style

1)Plotting-

Plotting your story helps you have a rough idea of where the story will move. Generally, a story has three parts- The start, the story part, and the climax. It’s important to know how your story will end because without knowing your destination you wouldn’t know where to start. So make sure to have a rough idea of how your story will move so you wouldn’t have a place you get stuck.

2)Character Designing-

Your characters are very important. With that even your side characters are. Each one has special importance to the story and might have a direct or indirect impact on your protagonist. Always remember the side characters are independent they might have an impact on your protagonist but still they have an independent life of their own. They don’t live because of your protagonist, they live because they want to.

There still might be some characters who might live because of the protagonist, because they themselves would have a reason. The characters might come from your mind, but once they are out they have a mind of its own. See them as an individual person, ask them questions to know them more.

Maybe take a personality test from their stance, this way you will know them more. It’s the character that decides what comes next, you are just someone who throws problems at them.

3)Writing Style-

Each writer sure has a different style. But that style should match your protagonist. Writing a thriller as a slow burn would be wrong because it has to be fast-paced.

Find your story’s genre!

Is it romance?

Thriller or nonfiction?

Your genre, story, and protagonist decide your style. Also, decide your story's Point of view, will you write it from your point of view?

Or from your protagonist's point of view?

How do you want the story to sound?

As if it is happening to the readers?

Or do you want to seem as if you are reading it to them?

Answer these questions and you will surely find your writing style.

This is just the start! Planning is a lot more than this. If you really wanted to you can plan each scene beforehand. But let's just have a small start.

But on top of all this- always remember planning doesn’t mean you forever stick to it, sometimes moving forward you might find an even better idea, you can always change it. Planning beforehand will help you finish 50% of everything you need to do to curate a book.

The rest 50 will be you just writing or in many cases typing away. A plan doesn’t make you confined to it, it should help you move forward not drag you down.

Writing is never easy, but sure it is always fun. Keep moving you got this!

Your name deserved to be paired with the word Author!

Good luck!
