Recap:
He could pass the ball, but the defence would overcome them. If he continued running with the ball, he would get stopped by Sunao. So he chose the third option, kicking it over.
"A high punt!" the manager pointed out.
Tenjiku's #14 jumped and caught the high punt. When he landed, he was met with a charging Sekizan before getting tackled and letting go of the ball. Sekizan quickly broke away and focused on the ball. He caught it before it could fall too far and ran for the goal line.
"Woah!" "Captain!" The sidelines were pretty pumped up to say the least as it was filled with cheers.
He dove towards the goal and scored a try.
"Yeah!" Umeno cheered at the back as she celebrated with Miki, "We turned this around!"
On with Chapter 25:
3RD PERSON POV
"Let's go, Jinko!"
After Kifune had scored the conversion kick, the ball went to Tenjiku's possession and they kicked it off.
"Huh? Tenjiku's fullback is standing pretty far back." KIbi pointed out and it got the attention of the members around him. "Huh? Oh, you're right. He was in the thick of it up until a minute ago."
"Is he just commanding the team without doing anything? Or has he given up and thinking this is just a practice game?" (Y/n) asked but loud enough for herself and the people around her to hear.
When it was Jinko's turn to kick off, Renpei caught the ball calmly and returned in with a half hearted kick, completely demotivated about the game. It seemed like Sunao was the only motivated Tenjiku player as he tackled Ise with all his might, only to be stopped by Gion.
The ball was passed into Ebumi who ran to the goal line. Renpei was the last line of defence for Tenjiku, but he didn't bother stopping Ebumi. Instead, he let him run past and score the try.
"All right! It's 19-10! Kifune, make the kick!" Umeno cheered with Miki, but (Y/n) thought otherwise. It honestly didn't feel right to celebrate a win that was given to you. It doesn't feel right to cheer when the opponent doesn't fight for the win...
"Why didn't you run?!"
The players were preparing for the conversion kick when shouting was heard from Tenjiku. "You could've caught him!" Surprisingly, it was Sunao that was shouting Renpei. Who would have thought the kind-looking boy would have snapped at his own teammate.
"That's the same, right?! You ain't doing anythin' either way!" some more words were exchanged between them but they were too far to be heard, "Leave! Leave now!" he shouted whilst shoving Renpei out of the way.
The team then must have said some things to trigger Sunao once again, "You're all the same! Not a single one of you is trying to win!"
...
The atmosphere on the field was now tensed and uneven, mostly from Tenjiku. Kifune managed to score the conversion kick. "We made the kick! It's 21-10!" it seems that Umeno and Miki didn't realize the shift in the atmosphere as they continued celebrating Jinko's lead.
After the next kick off, Tenjiku's plays started getting sloppy as they half-assed their tackles and didn't put that much effort into getting the ball back. Sunao was the only one putting in effort but he just gets pushed aside by Jinko. Or he would be too late with his tackle as the ball would have been passed to another player.
