So he let the awkward silence fester until he had finished eating the bare minimum amount of breakfast and went back to sleep.

"This isn't healthy." Haemon said simply. Sanyu huffed out a sigh.

"I know." The boy replied.

"Then stop. You need more food than the average teen and you've been eating less. Surely having an argument doesn't mean you can't eat the man's cooking." Haemon said. Sanyu thinned his lips into a line.

"I don't deserve it." The boy said, "I should be punished. I made him upset. I made him hate me.".

"Have you noticed that Keigo's not punishing you?" Haemon asked, obviously getting at something. Sanyu gave him a confused look. "He's your uncle, your legal guardian. If he thought you deserved to be punished he would have done something.".

When the kid didn't respond Haemon sighed and made his tone more forceful. "Punishing yourself is what they would have wanted. Don't give them that.".

"They were right." Sanyu gritted out. The words tasted poisonous on his tongue. "I should be punished. If I had just listened-".

"He didn't give you anything to listen to. Keigo's trying his best. Just give him time, alright? He doesn't hate you." Haemon assured the kid. God when did he get this soft? Being known as the crazed hero that invaded your psyche from the inside had given him a pretty uncaring attitude yet here he was, comforting a 15 year old.

"Keigo has his own trauma. I've seen it." The former hero continued. "You triggered some of that unintentionally. He doesn't hate you, he's just in the middle of relapse. And so are you.".

"I'm not relapsing." Sanyu insisted, shaking his head. He couldn't be. He had gotten so far.

"Fine, you're not relapsing." Haemon said, although it didn't sound like he believed it. "You're homesick.".

"That place wasn't home." Sanyu Objected.

"But the people there were. I was a hero for 11 years and I didn't have a home for more than 5 months. Kamaria was my home and the Six were yours." Haemon said. Sanyu sighed. He couldn't argue with that.

"I'll talk to him." He finally agreed. Haemon smiled ever so slightly.

"Good choice.". The apartment dissolved into a bright void that then gave way to Sanyu's bedroom.

That night Sanyu walked into the living room. Keigo was sitting on the couch, his eyes glued to a text conversation with Miruko.

The boy took a deep breath and readied himself for the conversation and made his presence known by taking a step with his crutches on the wood floor. Keigo's head snapped up and a smile ghosted his lips.

"Are you feeling better?" He asked. Sanyu nodded awkwardly and made his way to the couch next to him.

"Keigo..." He began, "I'm sorry. I know what I said was wrong but I don't really understand what exactly was wrong. I just-I don't want to hurt you. I didn't mean to make you upset.".

The man seemed a little shocked. "I'll explain it then." He said, something resembling a smile on his lips. "I should have gone over this earlier, I'm so sorry. You've been walking around like a kicked puppy and no ones even explained anything to you.".

"It's okay-". Sanyu was cut off by a sudden purple and teal glow that illuminated the living room. It was like a ball of light that enveloped the whole room, leaving similarly coloured smoke in its wake.

When the ball shrunk down to reveal a person. He was wearing a t-shirt, sweatpants and no shoes. His hair was purple with black roots peaking through and his eyes were a dark brown almost black colour.

He looked at Sanyu like he had seen a ghost.

Sanyu himself stood up, unstable on only one leg, but determined nonetheless.

The man took a step forward on shaky, uncertain feet. He reached a trembling hand out to Sanyu's cheek. The warmth of a living person under that was scalding.

"You're alive." He whispered in english, more to himself than anyone else. The man took a firmer stand, stepping even closer. He ran his fingers through Sanyu's overgrown bangs and pulled them away from his forehead. "Oh my god." He said, louder this time. "Oh my god. You're alive.".

Sanyu's eyes glistened with unshed tears. They were wide with shock and fear and elation and everything in between.

The man noticed and brushed his finger over the first tear to fall from the boy's steel grey eyes.

"Oh 宝贝." He said, his voice so soft and broken.

For the first time in real life and not a memory, Keigo watched Sanyu cry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This chapter is one of the most important in the whole book, honestly.

Its Sanyu's first real bit of hurt since entering this world that came from someone he really cared about. But don't worry he and Keigo are going to get over it!

And who is this new person? If you look back in the series you can probably figure it out 👀

As a little hint '宝贝' is a mandarin Chinese term of endearment that directly translates to baby but culturally has a meaning more similar to 'treasure'.

So its probably not a character with a Spanish last name like Jackson Alverez or someone with a Slavic last name like Yuliana Agapov.

Happy guessing!

(I promise I wont leave you with the cliffhanger for too long!)
