CHAPTER 14. PART 1

Start from the beginning

Adele will die.

I overlap the hoodie over my chest; It's warm and soft, the opposite of life in my currency.

Adele will die by my hands.

ADELE SANTIAGO

-BEFORE-

The smell of grass brezzes throughout my nostrils. I smile, the soccer views come into view and my teammates as well. I see Jacqueline and Marianne passing the ball to each other while Jenny is putting her shin guards on in the bleachers.

The rest of the team is warming up or chatting.

"Adele!" I quickly turn my head at the sound of my name. Niomi is running towards me.

Niomi hair is a strawberry pink color now. I laugh at the fact she dyed her hair again. And somehow it looks smooth and silky from my view. "NIOMI your hair!" I yell and I see her mischievous smile.

When she catches up to me I touch her hair and it's soft and smooth and mysteriously not dead.

"500 dollars later." My eyes widened in surprise. "How are you not broke?" I chuckle.

"Don't worry I have a hustle."  I don't want to think what she means but the coach blows the whistle for us to walk towards her. Me and Niomi continue walking and find a ball on the ground, we pass it to each other while getting closer and closer to the coach.

I pass her the ball one last time before she halts it and our focus is on the paper coach is showing us.

I look for my name and my position is defense for the first quarter. My eyes glance up at the bleachers where students sit. Most of the seats are filled and many are crowding around. Frantically I look at Slyvia who's playing middle. We glance at each other and nods her head towards the field. I nod back and start  running together.

My legs sprint in front of the goalie box, I walk more towards me left and position myself. The bright lights shine at us, and the wind blows smoothly. I enjoy weather like this when playing, the wind keeps a balance.

My arms are behind my back and my fingers are playing  with each other. Meanwhile the other team makes their way on the field, so does mine. Everyone starts getting into positions.

The ref places the ball in the middle while my two teammates are ready for kickoff. The tension rises as we wait for him to blow the whistle.

When he does Jenny passes it towards Sam upfront. Me and the other defense steps up. Sam dribble the ball forwards, but the #7 from the other team interferes attempting to kick the ball away, sam rolls the ball behind her and dribbles to the right of #7.

When sam isn't looking around #3 swipes the ball away and pushes up towards our side. I glance at Slyvia who's starting to run forward towards #3.  I run in front of #18 who's the closest player to pass to.

Number 3 looks towards #18 and her cleat presses against the ball. I sprint in front of #18 and I feel a force pull me back and my body flies. I see the sky as I'm floating, then my neck hits the grass, I place my hands into the grass trying to get ahold of my body.

Before I know it the ref runs towards me and so does my other team mates. I push my body up as I sit with one knee up. The other team is watching me, their yellow jerseys peek through the bodies surrounding me.

I see the ref pull up a yellow card, I begin to stand up and pat the grass on my knees. When I look up #18 is staring right back at me. Her features are so familiar to me but so distinct, I've seen her before.
