   "Well, so do yours."

"At least I know how to not creep someone out."

Psyche opened their mouth anew, pointer finger raised in the air, before they let it down again and pulled a somewhat defeated face.

"Verbally defeated by a child is something we will never get over." They slightly laughed, before they folded their arms on the table, looking down.

It got quiet but I didn't bother bringing up another question. Instead I studied the appearance of the weirdo more. Especially their eyes that creeped me out the most about them. They had to be tattooed, I was certain of it. I had heard of eye tattoos before and always thought them to be really stupid. I had only seen the eyeballs tattooed in blue, but not in this weird green and purple, as their left and right one were. The irises themselves had this weird hypnotic effect. The outer circle seemed silver, the next was almost black while the one in the middle was a strange pale green that surrounded the thin slit pupil.

Suddenly their eyes meet mine and I jumped a little. "We think you should hurry." They said to me. "School begins in another hour. We already packed you your lunch. You don't have to eat it, if you're not hungry, but just in case. You'll find it in the outer layer of your bag."

"Th...thank you." Was the first thing I could muster, but as the surprise faded away, I asked: "But why do you do this?"

"We told you." Their smile returned. "We are taking care of a child. This child being you."

"But why?" I returned. "What makes me so special? I barely know you and you barely know me!"

Their smile faded and their eyes seemed distant. I watched them as their gaze wandered back to the table, before they sighed. "We want to be honest with you, so please don't freak out." They then said, meeting my gaze again. "We knew your parents, even before you were born and only saw one another occasionally after, so we have only seen you when you were just an infant."

"You knew them?" My eyes went wide and they nodded.

"We sadly had other matters to attend to in the time from then to now." They explained further. "So once we did and only saw you leaving the house and no one responding after, we knew something was up." They went quiet. "We're sorry of what happened and if you want us to leave that is completely fine. We won't hold it against you. It's just..." They sighed. "We feel somewhat responsible for you, you know..."

"...What relations did you have with my parents?" I slowly asked, not letting them out of my sight. Pancakes and time had become irrelevant to me.

"Can we leave that aside for now?" They returned my gaze. "We think you went through enough in this week. Let's talk about this another time, okay?"

I looked at them for a moment longer. It would have been nice to know more about them and my parents, but I didn't want to push it. For one the weirdo seemed honest enough and for second I feared that if they spoke more about my parents, I might break again and I rather not do that in front of them. Without saying anything further, I continued eating my now cold pancake.

"Now that we think about it..." Psyche suddenly spoke up again, their eyes looking a little more energetic than they did before. "Was that alarm clock a good thing or should we wake you up instead?"

Embarrassment suddenly flared up in my chest as I almost chocked on my pancake.

"That was yours?" I was a little panicked. "I'm sorry! I didn't know!"

Psyche just waved me off. "Ahh, don't sweat it, buddy." They grinned. "We have at least a dozen more of them. So what would you like more? The clock waking you or us?"
