I smile at my phone.

We really haven't spoken on the phone in a while. I had to talk to her, I had so much to say. Of course, I can't mention anything about the mafia or the ball or anything, but I can twist my story up a little. I hate, hate lying to her like this, but she can't find out I'm off in Spain living in the house with a bunch of murderers.

It sounds bad when I put it like that. Really bad. But I mean that's what it is.

I open my message, replying to her.

Elodie:
Yes! I'm not busy right now, you can call me. I've been dying to talk to you forever!

I jump out of my bed, throwing the covers off of my feet, before quickly tiptoeing over to the door of my room. I can't call Iris in here, I'll probably wake the girls up and I would hate to do that. I open the door, closing it behind me, before I hear the ringtone on my phone.

"Shoot!" I mutter, pressing the lower volume button on my phone, while running down the hallway of the maid quarters. I reach the door fast, exiting through it, before answering the call.

"Hey!" Iris goes on her side, causing a beam to form on my lips.

"Hey, how've you been? I've not heard from you for a while, it got me missin' you more." I laugh, making sure I'm not too loud, since I see people walking around the mansion.

"It's only been a week! And we've been super busy at the joint this week, I'm lucky to have a day off. Helen found two other girls to cover my shift and told me to take a day." She tells me, laughing. I walk closer to the kitchen, where I'm hoping no one will be and I'll be able to sit and talk to her there.

I did forget to mention that the kitchen area has two separate rooms to it. One is the kitchen full of counters, ovens and stuff for the maids, and the other is a more personal kitchen for everyone to use. It has an island in the middle, attached to a wall, that could fit eight people on the chairs.

That's where I head.

"That sounds.. great! I know I texted you yesterday, but Merry late Christmas!" I laugh through the phone, hearing her laugh too, before replying with a 'Merry Christmas'.

I reach the kitchen and notice no one is around, so I take a seat on one of the spinning stools around the long island.

"How's Helen been too?" I ask Iris.

"She's been good, I told you her daughter had a child the other day didn't I?" She did tell me, about two weeks ago. I already knew Helen's daughter was pregnant, but I completely let it leak from from my mind, so it astonished me.

"Yeah."

"Well I've seen her, and she's the cutest baby going. Cuter than you when you were a baby."

"Oh okay! If we're playing that game, I totally looked better than you as a baby." I reply, giggling.

She denies. "You absolutely didn't!"

"Do I need to remind you of the photo taken right after you sneezed and you started crying and-"

"I call truce, we don't bring that up." She announces, and I accept her truce, smiling to myself.

"So, how is it in Tokyo? Have you been anywhere yet?" God, this is where the guilt comes in of lying to her.

I'm almost lost for words, but I manage to make something up that rolls off the tongue well.

"Their food is different than in England, of course, but I've learned to cook a bunch of stuff and a lot of it I've remade at my apartment before. The restaurant I work at is pretty fancy, and my co workers are super nice and friendly. I didn't expect to be welcomed this easily but here I am!"
