"Please, hindi pwedeng malaman niya lahat ng eto!" I heard muffled voices from the back of our house and I stopped myself from finding it out.
"Do what you have to do! We are running out of time! Find the book before she learned about it!" An unrecognizable voice ordered her and then, I heard a poof in the background.
I slowly returned to the kitchen, opened the door pantry to get myself a snack and pretended like I just got here. I heard footsteps and a frustrated Tita Tammy almost jumped back when she saw me.
"Kanina ka pa riyan?" She asked in surprise, her hands on her chest.
"Nope. Ngayon lang po." I shook my head and walked casually to the couch. "Saan ka po galing, Tita?" I asked and munched on some Piattos and sat. She sat on the single-seater with her hand on her head as if she was pressured and stressed.
And my gut now tells me that she is the person who was ordered to find the book. The Book of Incantations.
My eyes widened in realization and I almost gasped with what I found out by putting the pieces together.
"What? Anong nangyare sayo?" Tita Tammy's brows furrowed and I blinked.
I cleared my throat before saying, "N-naalala ko lang po na may assignment pala akong hindi pa nagagawa."
"Jusko kang bata ka. Sige na. Gawin mo na." She shook her head and waved at me dismissively.
I hurried to my room with the chips and C2 in my hands. When I reached the room, I locked the door immediately.
Just like that, my eyes rested on the book and it glowed as if it was calling me. I turned on the lights to remove its aesthetic uniqueness which makes it different from my other ordinary books.
I placed the chips and drinks on my study table and went to the shelf to pull it out. It was kinda heavy at first touch but as soon as I lifted it, it feels light as air.

My already big eyes became bigger when I read these words. It's a spell for dispelling attacks!
I started flipping the pages and come across a spell for communicating with a loved one. At first, I was tempted because memories of my parents came to me but I shove the feeling aside.
What I have learned from this book is once it gets to know its owner, it will automatically spell out the words under my grasp. It's just simply amazing and up until now, that it has been almost a month since I have discovered it, I get overwhelmed.
"Lizabeth!" That was Tita Tammy's voice and I hid the book quickly under my pillow.
"Po?" I answered back.
"Hindi ka pa ba matutulog? Akala ko ba may pasok ka pa bukas?" She asked from outside the door.
I glanced at the clock and saw that it was around nine in the evening. I usually had my lights turned off by eight thirty.
"Hapon pa po ang klase ko bukas. Pero opo, patulog na rin po." I said and went to the door to switch off the lights.
"Okay. Sleep tight. Matutulog na ako ha." She finally said and I heard her footsteps fading in the background. As soon as she was gone, I went back to my bed and opened the book.
There is something I want to learn tonight.
And it's the vanishing spell.
I just felt the need to know it.
Gut feels, I guess.
