Tempest Part 2

"How can it be possible you and Eve share the same nen ability?" He finally had the courage to ask you about it. You stayed silent, ignoring him. Nothing you could say would make him understand how you did that. He didn't push for an answer.

After you cleaned yourself off, you laid on a blanket he had spread out across the floor. "Are you sure you don't want to sleep first?" He shook his head.

You looked at him and smiled softly, "Thank you."

He returned the smile, "I knew you were hiding your strength all along. I've just been teasing you because I wanted you to show me your real potential."

"Ha. Yeah, you're saying that now because you saw that I'm better than you." You teased him. "You left the better fighter for me to handle because you actually suck."

He softly kicked you, "Watch it! I could end you in your sleep if I really wanted to." You should have been bothered by that comment, but you knew he was always bluffing.

"Nahhh, you like me too much." You turned away from him, implying you were going to sleep. The wall you were facing had empty glass cabinets along with them. This made you able to see your reflection as well as his behind you.

"Bite me." You could see that he was blushing in the reflection. You were so glad you found him when you did, you needed someone to have your back. Especially since you were so low on energy.

It didn't take long before you drifted off to sleep. A blanket on the floor wasn't very comfortable, but it was better than nothing. A couple of hours later a vibration from your watch woke you up. You opened your eyes, but before you looked at your watch you noticed the reflection in the glass. Val was pointing a gun at you, contemplating pulling the trigger. Maybe he did mean it when he said he would while you were sleeping. Where did he even get a gun?

You kept still, making sure he didn't see you were awake. It made sense. He cared for you, but he knew that only one of you could live. In his mind, he would be doing you a favor by making it quick while you were sleeping. The moonlight shining in the room made his reflection extremely clear. You could see tears in his eyes.

After a couple of seconds, he took a deep breath and lowered the gun. "Fuck! I can't do it." You were relieved, but you also felt troubled. If he cared about you that much, perhaps you could save him too? It was selfish to pick and choose who to save from a group of human beings, but they were humans born to be murderous soldiers. Still, a voice in the back of your head was telling you they weren't all lost causes. You wanted to help him so badly, but you knew he would never walk away from this life. Through the years you spent with him, he expressed his love for the association multiple times. He saw no problem they were making you all play this sick game, he just came to care for you too much. If Eve were here he would act the same. He was afraid of being alone.

You knew staying still would be your best option. After that, you couldn't fall back asleep. It wasn't because you were scared he would kill you, you just had a lot on your mind. After around an hour, you switched places with him and let him get rest. This would probably be the last and only night the two of you could genuinely rest. This game wouldn't take long to finish. Overnight, two girls and one guy were pronounced dead. And none of them were a part of the main group.

As the sun came up, you and Val prepared yourselves and left the ice cream shop. Val gave you another handgun he had just in case. You didn't question where he got it. You already had a little bit of a plan in mind for how you would win.

"So, where are we heading to?" You asked Val. The two of you were walking back through the forest. He had hardly said a word all morning, which wasn't like him.
