06. I Ruined Me

43 8 13

Dangling legs above burning flames,
he looked at the night sky
as the fire turned red.

The smoke spat out,
grey bits on black,

the ash floating down
like the winter snow.

Eyes in memories,
he shoved them away,

his palms and feet
in the biting cold.

Resting them just above
the flame,

he tried to warm them up
as his heart turned cold.

The fire cackled darkly,
blue at the rim,

burning the pictures down to wisp
with the dried roses.

The smoke felt suffocating,
strangling him with scents
of the places he cherished,

now, he could never visit
those places again,

not without the memories
crushing him.

Cursing, he threw in more firewood,
his eyes shone bleeding red.

Love had been a stupid word
and he fell for it,

deeming her his forever,
he did what he could only do once.

He had given her his world,
the entire of it, so when he walked,

every inch of it
reminded him of her.

And now, she was gone.

The fire that night
it had warmed his palms and soles,

but no fire could possibly,
melt his stone cold heart.

Personal Notes :-
I still think that this poem could be written better, any suggestions?

Till then, my mouth is shut.

Thank you for listening.
Keep yourself warm,

Love Hacs.
