Chapter 12 - Ayanokōji Kiyotaka

Start from the beginning

"I need some more information. There are very few people in mind that matches your vague description. Naturally, I wouldn't dive in just like so because you willed me to do so."

Ryūen's out. I should think it's a threat to her position, it is possible that it's mainly a personal problem of hers, but the former is the more likely reason.

Katsuragi, Hashimoto, Hirata, Nagumo, Manabu. These are the only people that posess enough influence to pose a threat to her. There might have been more, but it's restricted to he, therefore, these are the only remaining candidates.

"I need you to swear a pact, normally a threat... But."

You already got a hostage, huh?

She needn't say any more than that,
I would've shown more resistance if I thought of it as bothersome, I mean, it is... But this might be one of those rare spices of high school life.

"Yeah, yeah. Now give out his name."

The more time wasted, the less time
I have to prepare countermeasures.

"Ayanokōji. Ayanokōji Kiyotaka-kun."

Inconspicuous, average, silent, and has few friends, if they could be called that, even. I immediately crushed the seed of doubts that were starting to form internally, as I already had my own speculations from the beginning.

"Let's talk, then. I have reasons to accept and you're obligated to share information. Of course, I'll give out some things, although you might already know what I do know."

I had the widest range of information grasp throughout the entire school, it came to the cost of the quality, though. I hear things of little importance such as gossip, rumours, or even things that could be used against other classes if given to the right people, at a daily basis.

Sakayanagi's may be the most efficient, perhaps only second to Nagumo Miyabi's ironclad rule.

"Ugh... Here's your drink,"

I'm sorry, Masumi.

"Thank you, you can go now."

Why are you having her run around like an errand girl? Wait, is that Ryōko at some distance?

I fortunately stopped myself from asking, and just felt sorry for my friends.

Sakayanagi noticed my gaze, shifted her eyes towards my body that was casually sitting on the chair, and then spoke,

"Pawns go first. At least, usually."

Sometime soon, I will vow to have her feel sorry for how she treats me, but now's not the time.

I find myself questioning why she treats me this bluntly, although it may be better than being all sneaky and schem-y, I knew that I was the only person getting this treatment.

Don't ask if that's good or not.

"First of, let's match up what we have.
Chances are, he's the one behind saving those three idiots in Class-D, maybe not just those three but a lot others, you get the point."

I stretched both hands out in the air, my muscles felt a little dull from sitting too long. I looked her directly in the eye, just to see her usual smile on.

"Most likely. I do have a question,"
She paused, struggling to open what looked to be cold tea.

This sight tickled my heart a little bit.

"Is their ignorance a feint plan, or simply stupidity? It's not that I doubt my brain... But those people not realizing that... is a little stupid, wouldn't you say?"
