{ Arietta's POV }

We've been walking in our human forms for a few hours now, and I'm becoming extremely exhausted.
Over the past few hours my mate has been sniffing the air with slight annoyance. He's doing it again now and it's making feel uncomfortable.

"What is it?" I ask him

He looks at me questioningly.

"You've been sniffing the air every twenty minutes, and then you seem to become annoyed. Why?" I question pointing it out hoping he'll respond.

"You smell like smoke." He says

"Yes I'd assume so." I reply

"Why?" He questions seriously

"My house was burned down while I was in the cellar. So it would only make sense that I smell like it." I answer

"It masks your scent." He says

I give a nod telling him I knew that already.

"Why did your house burn down?" He asks

"Someone burnt it down." I answer simply

He looks at me carefully, and I can tell he's trying to read me. Literally I can feel his eyes trying to see inside my soul.

"I can literally feel you trying to get inside of my head, and I'd appreciate it if you stopped." I tell him

He looked at me in slight shock but masked it quickly.

"Who did it?" He questions

"I don't know." I lie

"That's a lie." He says confidently

"It is. I do know who did it but it's classified at least for the moment." I tell him

"Why?" He asks

"The information simply can't get into the wrong hands." I say

Marek seems to be thinking to himself.

"You don't trust me." He says with a strong tone

"I don't know you." I reply shortly then add " I trust you as much as I can. Which is very little. If I didn't trust you at all then I wouldn't let you follow me through the woods while in human form."
I tell him in complete honesty

He gives a nod seeming satisfied with my reaction although I'm not sure why.

"Will you tell me where we're heading?" He asks

"I'm heading to meet the council." I tell him

"You've been summoned?" He states like a question

"No." I answer

He raises an eyebrow towards me and asks "Then how do you plan to meet with them?"

"I don't have a plan. All I know is that I have to meet with them, and get their attention at all costs. Then I have to get them to believe me." I answer

He nods then stares at me and says "You're getting tired." and I answer with a simple nod

"Come on." He says and starts leading me in a slightly different direction then what we're supposed to be heading in.

"Where is it that you're trying to get me to go?"
I ask him cautiously

"My cabin is about a mile this way, you can rest safely there. Tomorrow at first daylight we'll resume heading towards the council." He says

I give a nod deciding not to fight him on this because I'm exhausted and I don't know how much longer I'll be able to go on without proper rest.

After walking a little longer with Marek leading the way we end up at what seems to be a dead end...however one thing I've learned over my lifetime is that not everything is as it seems. Myself included. As I look closely to the corner of the stone wall that is surrounded by trees, and see a slight glimmer towards the ground. I had almost missed it.

"I'm impressed. Such a complicated spell yet executed extremely well." I tell him

"I have Morgana to thank." He says

"As in Morgana the council leader?" I question

He nods then he looks at me before stepping through the wall. I stare in amazement before shaking my head. I walk through the wall much like Marek did, and much like I thought he was there waiting for me on the other side.

I wonder why the head council leader would cast such a spell for one single person? I know he's powerful but I'm not sure what power he holds.

"I have questions." I say boldly

Marek's eyes almost twinkle in amusement before he replies with "As do I."
