Chapter 1 Moni
I wake up from my deep slumber and open my eyes. I sit up and hear my mother screaming at me from downstairs to get up. I sigh and get up from my bed. I think to myself. Not this again. I walk over to my closet and throw on some low rise jeans with a brown tank top. Then I walk over to the bathroom that's connected to my room and brush my teeth. My little brother dan barges into my room. He kicks open the bathroom door. "Moni Mum says you're gonna make us late, hurry up. I need to meet up with Peter before 8:00." I throw my hair brush at him. "Get out of my room now!" He sticks his tongue out at me. " You don't have to be such a wanker about it." I grab a bar of soap and chuck it at him. "Get out now before I grab something sharp!" He quickly leaves and runs back downstairs. I then hear him snitch on me to mum. "Great now I'm gonna get yelled at." Mum starts to yell for me again. That's when I throw my hair into a quick messy low pony and run downstairs.
I grab my sneakers and my backpack then I head out to the car. My brother Dan is already waiting in the front seat. "This day is already Ass." I roll my eyes then hop in the back seat where I quickly put my shoes on. Mum throws me a black zip up jacket. "It's 40 degrees and you're wearing that. I don't think so, young lady." Dan gives me a small smirk when he turns around. "Are you going to work the corner today?" I kick him in the chest from the back seat and he pulls back. "Mum, she just kicked me for no reason!" Mum turns around after she starts the car. "What did I say about bullying your brother?" Mum always finds excuses to shelter him from society. Ever since dad decided to hop on the first train out of town. She turns back towards the wheel and starts driving. "Nana has invited us over for Tea later tonight, it would be Lovely if you joined us, Monice. I always dread going to Nana's, she's a very bitter old woman who hates gay people. When I came out she pretended I didn't exist for months. She finally said hi to me last week.
We pull up to my new school. I look up at the building. "Brookledge High" Seems pretty basic to me. I sigh and put my bag over my shoulder. I grab the handle and push the door open. Before stepping out I look at Mum. She smiles at me as if she knows I'm gonna be okay. I don't want to seem nervous so I smile and step out. After shutting the door and watching her drive away I turn and look around. So many people, It's already making me wanna puke. I take a deep breath and head for the doors. Everyone has their different cliques, in the corner by the pushes we have the jocks, typical buff guys with blonde hair or buzz cuts. I turn and look to see the cheerleaders by the front door. Most of them seem to be sucked into their phones. Nothing interesting to look at. I then open the front door and see the geeks by the lockers loudly talking about star wars and science. Behind them are the goths I'm assuming by the tall shoes and chains. I kind of dig it though. Then I turn to the left and see art if it was a person. I see a tall blonde boy with black cross earrings and glasses putting stuff in his locker. He has sort of a feminine build and It's cute. I guess.
He has a different vibe than everyone else and I like that.
After staring for a good two minutes a tall dude with brown hair on top and blonde underneath steps in front of me. I look up at him and frown. "Can I help you?" He holds out a stack of papers. "Are you Monice?" I look at the papers. "It's Moni but yeah why?" He hands them to me. "Names Axel Hames, I'm giving you a tour." Shit I had completely forgotten about it. "Sorry I forgot all about that." He starts walking towards the stairs down the hall. "All your classes that have 100 Hall are gonna be up here, All your classes on 200 Hall will be on the next floor after that. Down here you will only have electives and Lunch. You also spend free time down here or outside in the back if you choose. He starts walking up the stairs and I follow. Why is he walking so fast!? "Okay." He goes up to the first set of halls. "Some of the lockers have been moved up here due to remodeling, so you will have to walk up here first thing in the morning. Here you go to 200 Hall for the first half of your classes then go to 100 Hall for the rest of them." I look around. "That's kind of dumb." He starts walking up the next set of stairs. I quickly follow. Again with the walking, why does he walk so fast? "Hey I have a question" He keeps walking. "Why do you walk so fast? Are you high or something?" He stops at the top of the stairs. "Even if I was, it wouldn't change anything about the way I walk." Axel then proceeds to walk up to the next floor, he turns onto the corner and points down the hall.
"This is where you will have english, algebra and history. All the basic shit like that." I nod and we walk back downstairs, He explains more of the classes until we reach the last floor. "Any other questions newbie?" I look at my papers. "Do you know where any fun stuff is?" He smiles then turns to me. "My friend Daniel is throwing a party tonight, 10:00 sharp. The green lake docks, Only the brave show up." He walks off before I can say anything. I then hear a voice come from behind me. "Don't listen to him, he's just trying to scare you." I turn around and see the blonde boy from earlier or possibly, Girl. They hold out their hand and smile. "I'm Toby, and you are Monice right?" I shake their hand and smile. "It's Moni but yeah." Toby nods and lets go of my hand. "Well I happen to be going to that party tonight, I also know this area like the back of my hand so if you want you can come with me tonight." Is this really happening? I never thought someone this perfect would notice someone like me. Toby smiles and offers their hand. "Here I wanna introduce you to some people." I take Toby's hand and they lead me to the back doors, Toby pushes open the left door and we walk out into the garden area. I look over to see a group of people sitting on the benches.
A girl with stripes of pink in her hair pokes her head out and smiles. She starts to wave. "Hey Toby, who's that?" Toby and I walk over and the group looks over. "This is Moni, she's new here." I wave and we sit down. The girl with pink smiles and she looks at me. "I'm Lyn, and this is Emmi." I look at emmi. She has soft strawberry blonde waves with hazel eyes. She is very thin and pale, almost like a porcelain doll. Emmi has on a pink flowy dress with small white heels. Under that she has on silk white leggings. She's beautiful. Emmi looks up at me and waves gently but says nothing. Lyn has dark brown hair with two stripes of bright pink, one on each side. She has on a pink tee with a white skirt with thigh high white socks to match. I look at her shoes, vans of course. She has lots of freckles and light skin as well with a tint of tan. She has green eyes with a lovely smile. She kind of reminds me of a small child and a goth mixed together. Toby was wearing jeans with a white hoodie. Also vans, that seems to be popular. I then hear the Doors open and see a girl with red hair walk out.
She has blonde streaks similar to Lyn's. Hers are all over. She has bangs which match her face nicely. Her makeup is done but she is wearing gray shorts with a nirvana tee shirt. I look down and see she has on brown socks with black converse. She also has a brown bag on her shoulder. She smiles. "Hey guys I got some extra juice from the lunch room." She looks over and sees me. She waves. I wave back as she walks over and sits down. "Hey you must be new, It's nice to meet you. I'm Aubrey." She seems nice, everyone here does. "I'm Moni, and yeah I just moved here last week before break." Lyn looks at Aubrey. Toby looks at everyone. "Yeah well I invited Moni to come with us to the party tonight if that's cool with everyone." Aubrey smiles. "Yeah of course the more the better." Lyn frowns. "Yeah about that, I actually have to cancel. You guys know how my mom is.." Emmi looks at lyn. "But you promised you wouldn't bail on me again Lyn. You know I don't like crowds." Lyn smiles and pats her shoulder. "You got this Em, I know you can do it. Plus socializing will be good for you." Emmi stands up and walks off towards the door. Lyn quickly follows her back inside. "Hey don't be like that." Moni watches them then looks back at Toby and Aubrey. Toby sighs. "Don't mind them, they are always like that, Emmi doesn't go anywhere without lyn." Aubrey laughs.
"Yeah they are always together but they bicker like an old married couple." I smile a bit. Still curious why she doesn't talk much though. Is it rude to ask? "How come Emmi is so quiet?" Aubrey and Toby Look at each other. Aubrey looks back at me. "Emmi has had a rough year, and a lot of personal stuff has happened to her which caused her to shut down. She just got out of the hospital last week." I regret asking, I just killed the mood. "Oh..." This is why people shouldn't be so nosy. Maybe I'll change the subject. "So what kind of party are we going to?" Toby smiles a bit then looks away. "Oh you'll see."  A few hours pass and the bell rings. I walk out of the school and see mum's car, with Dan hanging out of the window like a monkey on crack. I take a deep breath then head towards the car. I get in and shut the door. Mum turns around and smiles. "So how was your first day? Make any friends?" I smile and buckle up. "Yeah 5 actually." Mum looks at me as if I just lied to her. She always finds it so surprising when I make friends. "Oh really? That's good."
I look out the window as she starts to pull out of the parking lot. "Yep." After Being forced to listen to kids bop for 45 minutes on full blast in the car we finally pull into my Nanas driveway. I sigh and get out of the car, I zip up my jacket and walk up to the door, Dan shoves past me and runs up to the door. "You little shi-" Mum looks at me and I look away. Nana opens up the door and Dan gives her a big hug. I know the only reason he's doing that is because he knows she's gonna give him 100 pounds for his stupid gaming set up.
We all sit down in the living room, Nana is in the kitchen making tea while I stare at the clock. She walks back in and sets the tea on the table. She also pulls out two envelopes from her pocket. She hands one to Dan and one to Me. Dan opens his and jumps up. "300 Pounds?!" He runs over and hugs her. "Thank you so much Nana." Nana chuckles and hugs him. "No problem my sweet boy." I open mine and pull out a stack of coupons. "Are you serious?" She gets up. "Oh dear I must have forgotten the other thing, how silly of me." She walks out then comes back with a wrapped gift. I open it and then I look at her. "Is this because I said I as bisexual?" A bible, she got me a bible. In this moment it took everything in me to not walk out. Nana smiled. "Oh dear I know you were just kidding. I just wanted to get you something you could use." Dan looked at me and smirked. Mum covered her mouth. "Oh mum, that's sweet of you.."
After 2 hours of sitting there playing monopoly I was finally free. I walked out and raced to the front seat. Dan came out and started to bang on the door but I locked it. Mum eventually got him to sit in the back and we headed home. Now was my time to shine, I walked inside and went up to my room. It was now 9:04 p.m. and time for me to get ready.
I locked my door and opened my closet. I looked through my clothes until I saw a short black dress. I pulled it out then grabbed a pair of fishnets. I changed, then I curled my hair. After that I brushed it out and used hairspray to create waves. It was now 9:43 p.m. and I still needed to do my makeup. I quickly finished that and then I grabbed my black leather jacket and favorite converse. I turned all my lights off and shoved a few pillows under my blanket. After sneaking out of my window I bolted down the street where Toby and I planned to meet. Instead i saw a girl, she had on a tight blue dress with a black undershirt with long sleeves. She also had on boots. She smiled, "Took you long enough Moni." it finally clicked. "Toby is gender fluid. "I didn't recognize you.." Toby laughs. "Yeah Sometimes I like to dress more masc but most of the time I dress fem."  They grabbed my hand and then led us to the green lake docks.
I didn't see anyone there. She then slid underneath the last set of docks and that led to a tunnel. I followed and slid right in. I suddenly heard loud music and people talking. Once we stepped down from the tunnel we walked through the path and suddenly I was in a club. There were at least 40 people. I saw Audrey dancing on a table with the dude I saw earlier, Axel I think his name was. She was wearing a black tank top with a green skirt and converse. She looked hot. Then I realized she was singing and he was blasting the sounds on his guitar. I recognised the song, it was "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence. They looked pretty close, almost like a couple. Then after she finished He got off the table. She stepped down and walked over to us. "You guys look amazing." I smiled. "Thanks so do you, I didn't know you could sing." Toby laughs. "She always sings at Daniel's parties." Aubrey covers her face. "Oh shut it Toby." I take back what I said. I think she likes someone else. Possibly this Daniel guy. Toby and Audrey went off to get drinks while I sat down and scrolled through my playlist. After waiting awhile I got up to go look for them and that's when this dumbo ran into me. The guy splashed his drink all over my dress.
"What the fuck!?" I pushed him and then realized who I just pushed. I could tell who it was because everyone stopped what they were doing just to watch. "He looked down at me. "That wasn't very polite." Yeah it wasn't you wanker! I stayed calm. "At least you realize it." He laughs. "Oh no I was saying that wasn't very polite of you, love." I backed up into the wall and he moved closer, our lips were only an inch apart. He moved closer and whispered into my ear. I could feel his breath on my neck. Chills went down my spine. "I didn't mean to get you all wet." I took a deep breath in then slid out from under him. I ran off, I couldn't find the exit. I can't even find my new friends. God this was such a bad idea. My head is spinning, I finally found a bathroom. I rush inside and take my jacket off. I then grab some paper towels and wipe my dress off. Daniel walks in behind me. I quickly turn around. "Leave me alone!" He pulls out a towel and hands it to me. I started to shake. I march up to him and grab him by the back of his hair, I then entwine my lips with his and he pulls me in by my hips. He then lifts me up and slams me onto the counter. I wrap my legs around him but before anything else can happen Audrey walks in. I see her and stop. She drops her drink and walks out quickly. I quickly get up and run after her leaving Daniel in the bathroom. I can't find her. I run my fingers through my hair out of frustration and continue to look around. What was I thinking. I knew better. I turn around and a crowd of people run into me causing me to smack my head on the brick wall. Lights out.
