"You should've been crying into my arm," I tell La.
"We're just kids, Dae. We couldn't have done anything," she replies.
"I should've never left you."
"If you never left me, I would've never got out of that mess."
"You're always so positive about everything."
"I'll never blame you for something that's not your fault."
"I promise to never leave you again."
"Let's just keep our words without giving them."
"Okay, I think it'll be better for both of us."
"But all I did was watch," I tell her again.
"Thank you for not coming running," she replies.
"I guess your mother loves you."
"Yeah, but I always feel, she loves me but not like a mother."
"It's probably because of the less age difference."
"I know; thirteen years' age difference is not much."
"But she saved you. I'll always be grateful to her."
"I wish she never lied to me though."
"She didn't have any other option."
"I think I'll ask her about it. See where it goes."
"They took you, whoever was in that car," I say.
"They took me away from a monster," she replies.
"I wish they at least told me that you were being taken to a better place."
"If they knew you, and if you were not a kid, they would've told you."
"Your mother knows me now."
"I think she likes you."
"She better does. Because I plan to be with her daughter."
"You were with me for so long."
"Except the twelve years in between."
"I think you were with me for those years too."
La and I used to be best friends since we were kids. But then she was taken and apparently lost most of her memories. After a whole twelve years, I found her again. We came back to my home from my friend's house. Here, she sees a picture of me taken just a month before she was kidnapped. Her expression changes instantly which makes me understand that something came back to her. She squeezes her eyes shut. When she opens them and looks at me, I know she knows.
She starts crying. She starts to tell me all the things that come to her mind but she is not sure if it is a dream or memories. She starts to tell me about our house and how she remembers it. All the other details that are totally accurate. But she still looks up at me for clarification. So I give it to her. I tell her everything. She absorbs all the facts. I am so proud of her right now. I do not expect her to handle this as well as she does. She amazes me.
