"Are you sure you're not coming to the party?" I asked my best friend who was now lying on my bed with her blonde hair spread out.
"Nah! I don't plan on seeing that asshole anytime soon. I can't believe he turned me down." She replied and continued to munch on her chips angrily. I have no idea how she maintains that body of hers without hitting the gym. She was exactly the opposite of me, model like physique, long blonde hair and steel blue eyes.
"How are you so sure that he will be there tonight?" I asked with a small chuckle as I wore a long sleeved white blouse and a black A-line skirt. I finished my look with a pair of only pumps that I owned. It was pretty worn out and I mentally made a note to buy a new pair of shoes with my next paycheck.
"Oh, I'm pretty sure he will be there, Hazel. It's a Saturday night and we are hosting a masquerade theme party tonight. Come on, we are talking about Jayden Brooks." She scoffed, making me sigh in response.
It was true. He was not the type of guy who sits at home on a Saturday night. He was a fucking player and unfortunately, also the hottest guy of our town.
"Wish I could take the night off as well but I've got bills to pay unlike you, boss." I pouted, making her roll her eyes.
"Ugh! Stop calling me boss. Makes me feel old, babe."
I laughed, shaking my head in response as it was the truth. She owned the pub where I work at. Well, technically a part of the pub. It was shared between her and her brother, Zach and if it weren't for them, I would have been in the streets by now.
I pulled my thoughts together before I could go any further and grabbed my stuff to leave.
"There is leftover lasagna in the fridge and lock the door. I'll be back as soon as I'm done with my shift." I kissed her forehead and was about to leave, but she stopped me.
"Wait, take the car and go."
"No, I can't. It's just a five minute walk to the pub, Beth." I tried to reason with her as I didn't feel comfortable.
"For fuck sake, Hazel! It's been three years since we started living together. We are best friends. Stop treating me like a stranger and get your ass in my car." She almost snapped at me, making me raise my eyebrows.
"Ummm...okay. Thanks, Beth."
"Ahh! Here we go with the thanks!" She let out a loud groan before I started to laugh.
"Alright, shut up. I'm leaving."
"You better. Love you, bitch." She called out as I walked out of the door with a small smile.
Life may have given me a shitty family and a shitty childhood but I was glad to have a best friend like Beth and her brother, Zach. I can proudly call these people as my family. Both of them have been through my highs and lows and they were the fucking best.
Once I pulled up at the pub, I quickly fixed my bangs and my long chestnut brown hair that was pulled back into a ponytail and looked at my reflection one last time in the rearview mirror before stepping outside.
"Hi there, big guy." I smiled at the bouncer of our pub who handed me a mask and I gave him a puzzled look.
"You need to wear it as well, baby girl."
