he stood up and offered her his hand, seeing as she was in her half sitting/kneeling position by the flowers.

she accepted his hand, and decided not to drop it as the air walked forward. the two didn't say anything, just kept walking to wherever the blonde man was leading them to.

momentarily, valtteri dropped her hand to adjust he picnic basket as it was hitting the hedges and making an annoying scraping sound that was ruining the scene before them.

dima didn't notice the sound, so semi-confused, dropped her hand back to her side when she felt valtteri's hand looking for hers again. she let him find it and didn't miss the little squeeze he gave her when he did.

'how's your father? in beirut?' she didn't know how they hadn't managed to talk about their parents yet.

'yes, he didn't feel like coming back after the last trip.' she started. 'i'm actually going to visit him tomorrow actually.'

valtteri's head turned a little, surprised that she didn't tell him yet. she wasn't known for being the most discrete as a child or as a teenager. the thought did cross his mind.

'was i supposed to find out about that after you came back or..?' he asked teasingly, knowing that she would pick up on it. the small smile was on her face when she replied.

'don't act like you're not all over the world for most of the year val. besides, it didn't come up naturally so it slipped my mind.' it may have sounded like a lie but she had completely forgotten that she was actually leaving tomorrow.

'that's why i was at the airport on the day we met again. my flight had gotten cancelled and i was too busy sulking about it to notice you were walking at me with your damn coffee.' she was praying he wouldn't ask why she was going. how would she explain without essentially trauma dumping.

'well, it must have been fate. otherwise how would we have known? actually scratch that i should've guessed by the second i dropped the coffee that it was you, it's just your hair.' valtteri added on. sure there were obviously dark haired people in finland, but he considered her special for it.

dima's smile was not faltering and the little motions in her stomach were not helping. he was walking around acting like her boyfriend. it was the way he looked so much like the valtteri she remembered, and the way he looked at her as they talked, walking while gently squeezing her hand in acknowledgement of what she said. it was the feeling of being special to someone, like they cared about what you say, the one she had been deprived of for a few years now.

he laid down the basket again after reaching the spot, different times the one from before. he hoped she wasn't bored, because this was the kinda thing they both would've hated to do as children. he would have laughed out loud at the fact that they had become the kind of adults that would probably walk around museums and woods as fun pastimes, instead of doing something cooler.

he gently let go of her hand to let her get seated. he took out the assortment of food he had picked for their date. it was nearing mid to late afternoon now.

'dima?' he asked, the suns rays bouncing off of his blonde soft hair. she was itching to touch it. they were in the middle of eating when the thought crossed his mind.

'hmm.' she made a content encouraging sound, urging him to continue. he wanted to make it clear.

'is this okay? like holding your hand?'

'what do you mean?' dima was slightly confused. was this meant to be platonic? because if that was the case then sh'd already failed.

'you don't mind that i'm holding your hand and here spending time with you, acting like-'

'like we're on a date?' dima couldn't stop herself from guessing what the rest of his sentence would be. she immediately regretted it though, thinking she had read all this wrong. she was scrambling her mind to think of something to fix whatever this mess was.

'exactly like that.'

it was quiet for a second.

'why would i mind?'

i'm so so so sorry for the long wait. i've just not had the time with everything that happened between december and now. i'm really busy with exams and stuff. i'll try to be more consistent though.
