While he may be very narcissistic he's always been willing to help his friends! He's always been willing to do anything for them, he'd be willing to die for them, and will that may be a bit much (in others eyes) but it's kinda normal to him after all the things they've been through together and they even taught Matt how to love himself (especially after how high school treated him)
