How Marcus adopted five:

Fives real father abandoned Hera when finding out she was pregnant. No one knows who the father is and Hera refused to say his name. She had too much hatred towards him and didn't want him in fives life.
Before Hera died, the doctors informed her that there was a high possibility she wouldnt make it.
She then immediately looked to her best friend, Marcus Kane.
She made him promise to take care of her baby and protect her. To give her the best life he could offer. She had named her baby daughter before she died, but it was forgotten in the future and completely changed. It changed into Five.
Kane adopted five and became her legal guardian after Hera died. His best friends death did take a big toll on him but he still swore to protect Five.
Yet in the future, he slowly forgot his promise to Hera and never even had a thought of her ever again. And he began failing at being a good father to five and offering her the best life.
