Just a collection of poetry I wrote for school (our unit is tradition so I was a little restricted)

Acrostic:

Born from new thoughts
Enters into new minds
Living those thoughts
Inside your traditions
Ever-Growing many
Faithful to the old

Haiku:

In Another Life

Wholly other worlds
Just beyond my fingertips
I can see afar

Free Verses:

Long before us
Was something we used to do
Now a habit of the old
Lost in the roaring winds of time

---

An act of my ancestors
Something I know, not the origin of
Yet I still do
Trapped in the cycle of heritage
I act for them and I act of them
And thus I am their legacy
Those of old I know too well yet not at all

---

Over and over again
Done by many, now and back then
Little actions to ways of life
Festivals, religions, joy and strife
Shared with everyone, family and friends
We will continue until the end

---

I hold onto what I was given
By my father long ago
That was given to him by his father
And again and again, it was handed

Until it had reached me
My small, grubby hands unfurling and grabbing
For the thing that they had passed on
The marvels of the old

I used to wonder
How things would work
Why people would act the way they did
And why they wouldn't act the same

I wondered how when I said one thing
They would think I had said another
And when I meant another thing
They would think I meant different

Not an object that was imparted
But a way of life
And a way of perception
I think the way I do
And I act the way I do
And it is unlike the others

I hold onto it
However many others may try to disagree
Or however much they may try to change me
I hold onto the actions that I do
And the words that I say

I hold onto my heritage
