*You must read the first book, Daydreams, and the second book, Surreal, before you read this book.

Previously on Surreal:

"Do you ever wonder who we'd end up with if we weren't mates? If we'd never made up all those times?" I ask.

"Try not to." Dylan shifts back to normal. His foot skids as he attempts to climb the tree across from me.

"But there's so many possibilities. I could have died as a hostage of your father. Mason could have killed me. You could have-" "Stop, Carter."

"Dylan I'm serious. There's so many reasons why you and I shouldn't be standing here today, but we are. Why us?"

Dylan jumps off a limb of a tree and sighs.

"Maybe we're not done here."

I say nothing, just staring back into blue eyes.

A sound of a twig snapping makes both of us look to my left into the forest.

I squint, vaguely making out a dark image moving quickly.

Dylan and I look at each other then back at the forest.

"Maybe we're not." I say.

Dylan steps over and takes my hand is his.

We give each other one last look before racing towards the trees.

The gasp on our parent's faces when we rang the doorbell was granted. I was supporting Dylan on my right side. Both of us, cut up. Dylan was worse than I was.

"Bloody hell happened to you two?!" My mom exclaims, both of them helping us inside.

"They cheap shotted me." Dylan groans as Emma helped him to the couch.

"Dylan!" Ellie cries.

"Oh my god Ell please go upstairs honey!" Emma tells her.
Ellie shakes her head and continues standing on the staircase.

"Ellie please." Dylan groans as Emma sets him on the couch.

Ellie runs to him.

"What happened to him?" She cries. I can't even be offended. This girl was close to her brother. Like I should be with Chloe, but I'm not. Ellie loves Dylan, so I can understand her worry about him overall.

"I'm gonna be fine. Just, please get outta here Ell." Dylan groans.

Mom sits me beside Dylan and runs upstairs.

"What happened?"

I look at Dylan then at my blood-covered arm.

"Stay here."
I scoffed. "I'm not letting you go searching alone. Besides, I'm already here."
You would think grabbing my hand and running with me in tow was a sign he would let me help. Of course not, I'm just there for lookout.
He ignored my pleas.
"Well I'm not gonna let you get hurt that's for damn sure." I object.

"I can handle myself."

"Do I look like I care?" I retorted.

"Would you please-" "No!"

"Can we agree on anything?" he mumbled as we walked into the trees.

"Can you stop bitching for one minute?" I retorted.

"Can you just-" I didn't hear Dylan finish his sentence as I fell to the ground.

"Clumsy much?" Dylan offered me a hand.
